‘A Sister’ Director Delphine Girard on Her Oscar-Nominated Short

The premise for Siqi Song’s Oscar-nominated animated short is simple: A Chinese man reflects on his life as a child with an annoying little sister.

Director Daria Kashcheev’s Oscar-nominated animated short “Daughter” examines the relationship between a daughter and her father. It’s a story that forced Kascheev to look at her own relationship with her parents while she was writing the story.

Parasite’s” historic Oscar nominations haul includes editor Yang Jinmo, who won for dramatic feature at the Jan. 17 American Cinema Editors Eddie Awards. Yang’s win for “Parasite” was the first time a film in a foreign language won. Historically, in 11 of the past 15 years, the winner of the dramatic feature ACE award has gone on to win the Oscar for editing.

Harriet Frank Jr., the two-time Oscar nominee forHudandNorma Raewho partnered with her husband, the late Irving Ravetch, to form one of the great screenwriting teams in Hollywood history, has died. She was 96.Frank died Tuesday at her home in Los Angeles, her nephew, Michael Frank, told The New York Times.Frank and Ravetch worked on 17 features together, including eight directed by Martin Ritt over a 32-year span and three that were adapted from William Faulkner novels.

Unifrance’s MyFrenchFilmFestival (MFFF) is back this year, giving thousands of fans of French-speaking cinema from around the world an opportunity to see films reaching the end of their festival runs. This year’s competition received a late boost when Delphine Girard’s “A Sister,” one of the 10 shorts in competition, was nominated for the best live-action short Oscar on Monday.

Yesterday, the 2020 Oscar nominations were announced, with movies such as Parasite, Marriage Story, Joker, and more earning nods. Jenny Lewis wasn’t too impressed, however, taking to Twitter to write a 14-line poem shouting out some of the talent who went unrecognized by the Academy, such as Adam Sandler in Uncut Gems, Lupita Nyong’o in Us, Awkwafina in The Farewell, and more.

Florence Pugh received her first ever Oscar nomination for her critically acclaimed performance as Amy March in the Greta Gerwig-directed Little Women and the 24-year-old actress reacted to the news in the most hilarious way. The actress took to Instagram and shared before-and-after pictures from the morning she received the news of her nomination. Pugh woke up to the nominations early morning on December 13 and documented her epic reaction from her bed and shared it with her fans.
