Netflix series Tiger King, has pleaded guilty to wildlife trafficking and money laundering.Antle is the owner of The Institute for Greatly Endangered and Rare Species (TIGERS), also known as Myrtle Beach Safari in South Carolina.According to the US Justice Department, Antle conspired to violate the Lacey Act – which prohibits the trafficking of illegally taken wildlife protected by the Endangered Species Act – by directing the sale or purchase of two lion cubs, two tigers, two cheetah cubs and one juvenile chimpanzee between September 2018 and May 2020.It’s said Antle used bulk cash payments to hide the transactions and falsified paperwork. He is also said to have requested that payments for endangered species be made through his nonprofit organisation, the Rare Species Fund, so they could appear as “donations”.Between February and April 2022, prosecutors say Antle and a co-conspirator laundered money using cash they believed was obtained by transporting and harbouring illegal immigrants.For each count, Antle faces a maximum of five years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000 and three years of supervised release.

Doc Antle is facing up to 20 years in prison after he was convicted in his wildlife trafficking case.According to the Commonwealth of Virginia's Office of the Attorney General, a Frederick County jury convicted the embattled  star of two felony counts of wildlife trafficking and two felony counts of conspiring to wildlife trafficking. Tiger King star Carole Baskin is closing down her Big Cat Rescue sanctuary and transporting its wildlife to Arkansas.The closure was announced in a memo, written by Carole’s husband Howard Baskin and posted on the sanctuary’s website last week (March 27). The couple have also vowed to donate funds to the new sanctuary named Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, in which the wildlife are now headed.“Big Cat Rescue has entered into an agreement with Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, an accredited sanctuary in Arkansas, to move most of Big Cat Rescue’s cats to Turpentine Creek where we will continue to fund their care for the rest of their lives,” read the statement.“[Once the cats are moved,] we will sell the sanctuary property and use the proceeds to fund these species-saving projects in the wild.”Baskin further explained the closure by referencing the Big Cat Public Safety Act, or BCPSA – a federal law signed last year that prohibits private ownership of big cats including lions, tigers, cougars, cheetahs, leopards or any hybrid breeds.According to the statement, it was the high costs of maintaining the enclosure that led the couple to sell.
