definition of soul food is love,” Reynolds told The Post. “Togetherness, and love language when your back is against the wall.”The show defines “soul food” as “Making something out of nothing, with sustenance and love in every bite.” Reynolds wanted to do a show focusing on soul food, she said, because “I wanted to know what soul food meant. What it meant in America, and wanting to see if there were similarities around the world, in what other countries considered their soul food.” She kicks off the series by tracing the roots of soul food to the legacy of African American cooking, starting in Mississippi, before she makes a surprising connection to Native Americans in Oklahoma. “There are things that I learned,” Reynolds said, “and things that I think some experts didn’t know, or the average black American, or the average American, for that matter. I want this show to be for everybody.

Mick Jagger talks working with “really great singer” Lady Gaga for Rolling Stones’ ‘Sweet Sounds Of Heaven’

Mick Jagger has recalled working with Lady Gaga on The Rolling Stones‘ new single ‘Sweet Sounds Of Heaven’.The collaborative song, which also features Stevie Wonder, was released yesterday (September 28) as the latest preview of the Stones’ 24th studio album ‘Hackney Diamonds’ (out October 20).During an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Jagger praised Gaga – who provided backing vocals on the track – and explained how ‘Sweet Sounds Of Heaven’ came together in the studio.“She’s a really great singer and I’d never heard her sing [in] quite that style before. Not exactly,” the frontman said of the pop star’s contribution.“We did it live in the room and that was a great experience, her just coming in the room and her just opening up and seeing her bits and feeling her way and then getting more confident.”He continued: “And then we came back and then did some extra parts that we hadn’t done on the day and then we did some tidying up and we were just in the overdub room, really face-to-face, getting them really tight, the parts really tight, and then being slightly competitive and screaming.”Jagger told Lowe that ‘Sweet Sounds Of Heaven’ is “all played live”, adding: “And of course, we did overdubs, but it’s all played in the room.”While sharing some behind-the-scenes studio footage, Gaga recalled her experience of working with The Rolling Stones, saying that she’d been inspired by their classic hit ‘Gimme Shelter’ as well as “gospel and soul” music.“I thought about my favourite old Stones tunes and all the great vocalists who had sung with Mick, making what we know now as a ‘sound’ unique to a band that defined a huge piece of rock’n’roll,” the star wrote.“Then we cut [the song] live.

DJ Cassidy on spinning for Beyonce and JLo: ‘Everyone has their songs’

DJ Cassidy — already underage at 18, but looking “like I was 8” — got his big break on one slow, rainy night at the club Lotus in NYC’s Meatpacking District. That was back when there was more beef than beats in the neighborhood’s nascent nightlife days, and, that night, there was a certain hip-hop mogul — Sean “Puffy” Combs — in the house as Cassidy was filling the largely empty space with the soulful sounds of Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan and Luther Vandross.“And so Puffy goes to the floor and essentially dances by himself for two hours,” the now 42-year-old DJ — who will headline Manhattan’s Radio City Music Hall with his “Pass the Mic Live!” concert on Friday — told The Post.“At 5 in the morning on the way out, he walks by the DJ booth … and he wrote down his name and number on a napkin and said, ‘Call me tomorrow.’ ” And when he talked on the phone to Combs the next day, Cassidy Podell got “the greatest compliment I’ve ever received.”“He goes, ‘How do you know how to play all those records like that?’ And I said, ‘Like what?’ And he goes, ‘Like you lived it.’ ”A white, Jewish kid from the Upper East Side, Cassidy was too young to have heard many of the black classics he was spinning when they were first released. But with his signature mix of old-school R&B and hip-hop, DJ Cassidy would go on to become spinner to the stars — from Puffy and Jay-Z to Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez — as well as rock the White House at not one but two presidential inaugurations for Barack Obama. Now a star in his own right, he looks every bit the part in a custom-made pink suit ahead of his “Pass the Mic Live!” show on Friday at Radio City.

Morgan Wallen Rules Albums Chart for 11th Week, as Jonas Brothers Launch at No. 3 and Daft Punk Makes Comeback at No. 8

Thania Garcia Morgan Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time” spends an 11th consecutive week topping the Billboard 200 albums chart — meeting marks set by the “Titanic” soundtrack, which ruled over the chart for 16 weeks in a row back in 1998, and joining record-setters Whitney Houston and Stevie Wonder. In the latest tracking week, “One Thing” garnered the equivalent of 134,500 sales in the United States, including 165 million streams, according to data by Luminate. The 36-song set is the first of any genre to spend its first 11 weeks at the summit (meaning it opened at No. 1 and stayed there) since Houston’s 1987 album “Whitney,” which boasted classics like “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)” and “Where Do Broken Hearts Go.” Before that, Wonder’s “Songs in the Key of Life” notched 13 weeks at No. 1 in 1976 and 1977.
