K.J. Yossman Ann-Helén Laestadius’ novel “Stolen” is getting a Netflix adaptation. Elle Márjá Eira (“The Sámi Have Rights”) is set to direct the feature based on a screenplay by Peter Birro (“Monica Z”). Laestadius will exec produce. “Stolen” will be Eira’s feature film debut. The film, about a young indigenous woman’s struggle in the face of xenophobia, climate change and the patriarchy, will go into production in Sápmi next year and is set to premiere in 2024. “I am over the moon!” said Laestadius. “For me as an author it is of course a dream to see my book adapted into a film and reach a whole new audience across the world. And I’m incredibly happy that Netflix – with their reach – chooses to highlight a Sami story in a big way.”
Naman Ramachandran “Me, My Mom & Sharmila,” the feature directorial debut of queer Muslim writer-director Fawzia Mirza, has set its cast. The film will feature Amrit Kaur, the breakout star of Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble’s HBO Max series “The Sex Lives of College Girls”; Hamza Haq, who won best actor in 2021 and 2022 at the Canadian Screen Awards for CTV medical drama “Transplant”; and Nimra Bucha (“Ms. Marvel,” “Churails”). Set in 1999, the film follows Azra (Kaur) over 48 hours as she travels from her home in Canada to her parents’ homeland of Pakistan to bury her father (Haq). Azra struggles to connect with her conservative mother Mariam (Bucha), but her return to Pakistan launches her into memories both real and imagined that reveal their unexpected similarities.

Pope is due to begin her new role in the coming weeks, at which time Charter will begin to phase out the Originals division.Spectrum Originals first launched in 2018 with the acquisition of the “Bad Boys” spinoff “LA’s Finest” starring Jessica Alba and Gabrielle Union after the show was not picked up to series at NBC.
EXCLUSIVE: Three months into production on Season 1 of Beacon 23, Spectrum Originals and AMC Networks’ psychological thriller series starring Lena Headey and Stephan James, has been renewed for a second season. Work on the second season of the series, produced by Boat Rocker Studios and Spectrum Originals, will start shortly with Glen Mazzara and Joy Blake as new executive producers and co-showrunners. They will succeed at the helm Zak Penn. He created the series, based on the book by Hugh Howey, and serves as executive producer/showrunner on Season 1, which is filming in Toronto for three more months. The plan is for Beacon 23 to stay in continuous production on Season 2 after Season 1 wraps.
