NME about collaborating with PJ Harvey for her forthcoming Apple TV+ show Bad Sisters – revealing that the iconic singer-songwriter has recorded a version of Leonard Cohen’s 1974 track ‘Who by Fire’ as its theme tune.Horgan, the acclaimed writer and actor known for creating and starring in the Channel 4 sitcom Catastrophe and BBC comedy Pulling, has adapted the Flemish series Clan for the 10-part series – due to premiere in August.Having revealed that Harvey had composed the theme tune and co-written its soundtrack in NME’s recent interview with her, now she has provided further details about the team-up. As well as featuring her rendition of ‘Who by Fire’, the dark family drama also sees Harvey open her archive to contribute previously-unheard material. The idea of reaching out to Harvey, who has previously composed scores for a number of projects including Shane Meadows’ 2019 miniseries The Virtues, first came about while discussing ideas for working with indie musicians on the show with Bad Sisters’ score composer Tim Phillips, whom Horgan had previously worked with on the 2022 Courtney Cox-starring horror-comedy series, Shining Vale.

Sharon Horgan says Liam Gallagher loves her show ‘Motherland’

Liam Gallagher praised her hit comedy series Motherland when the pair crossed paths at one of his recent shows.Co-written by Horgan, the BAFTA-winning sitcom follows a group of middle-class mums in west London as they attempt to navigate their chaotic lives and deal with primary school politics. It stars the likes of Anna Maxwell Martin (who plays Julia), Lucy Punch (Amanda) and Diane Morgan (Liz).During a new interview with NME, Horgan remembered receiving some unexpected love for the show while standing side-of-stage at Gallagher’s gig at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium this month.“I went to see Liam Gallagher play and as he was coming onstage, he came over to me and said, [imitating his northern accent] “‘Motherland! Fucking genius!” she explained.“And I thought: ‘What the fuck?!’ That was the last thing I expected. First of all, I never expect people to know me from Motherland, because I’m behind the scenes writing and secondly, I never thought Liam Gallagher would fit into its demographic.”Horgan continued: “I always thought it would be mums in Green Park who watched it, so I absolutely fucking loved that.”Motherland premiered on BBC Two back in 2016, and returned for its third and latest season in May 2021.

Vampire’s Kiss and The Wicker Man alongside lesser-known obscurities like 1991’s erotic spectacle Zandalee and 1993’s noir-ish flop Deadfall, the video expertly served up four minutes of Nicolas Cage screaming his gills off. Cage fans and skeptics alike ate it up.That cut inspired other highlight reels — Nicolas Cage laughing, Nicolas Cage being silent — but it also presaged a decade in which Cage was often treated more as meme than human.

Nicolas Cage has said he turned down roles in The Matrix and The Lord Of The Rings to spend time with his family. The actor, who plays a fictionalised version of himself in new film The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent, explained in an interview with People how the version of Nic Cage on-screen, who is always seeking the next role, is different to reality.“First and foremost… there’s no version of Nic Cage in reality that doesn’t want to spend time with his children,” Cage said. “There’s no version of Nic Cage that didn’t put family first over career.“I turned down Lord Of The Rings and I turned down Matrix because I didn’t want to go to New Zealand for three years or Australia for three years because I needed to be home with my son Weston, that’s a fact.”He added: “So there is a huge disparity between that Nick Cage in Massive Talent and the Nic Cage sitting in front of you right now.”Weston Cage Coppola, now 31, is an actor and producer.

‘Shining Vale’ Sends Courteney Cox Down a Haunted Rabbit Hole as Funny as It Is Chilling: TV Review

Caroline Framke Chief TV CriticThe blunt opening title card of “Shining Vale” feels like a test: “Women are twice as likely as men to suffer from depression,” it reads, seeming to signal the beginning of a clunky show about Women and Depression — at least until the next sentence appears onscreen. “Women are also twice as likely to be possessed by a demon,” it says, a immediate and deliberate wink of self-awareness at an audience that might’ve already tried to write the show off.

Shining Vale

Shining Vale, Starz’ new horror comedy co-created by Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe) and Jeff Astrof (Trial & Error), that’s the point. Leaning into clichés in order to answer the question “What if The Shining was a sitcom starring Courteney Cox?”, this eight-part series (served in bingeable, thirty-minute morsels) juggles jump scares and jokes at a rate of knots, whilst trying to dissect the ways in which women’s trauma is so often either demonised or dismissed out of hand.
