Lots of release dates changes and additions as the theatrical release schedule take a turn due to the ongoing actors strike. Universal Pictures has staked out June 27, 2025 for The Black Phone 2. The first movie, released during the summer 2022 as moviegoers were coming back to cinemas from the pandemic, was a surprise sleeper making over $90M domestic, $161M worldwide.

Director Scott Derrickson, known for his work on “The Black Phone,” is embarking on a unique journey with his remake of the classic noir film “The Night of The Hunter.” This adaptation of the original 1953 novel by David Grubbs promises a much darker tone than the 1955 Charles Laughton-directed movie. The news, reported by Deadline, also reveals that Derrickson’s longtime creative writing partner, C.

Scott Derrickson has been set to direct an adaptation of Davis Grubb’s classic 1953 novel The Night of the Hunter for Universal Pictures, working from his script written with C. Robert Cargill, his longtime collaborator on The Black Phone, Doctor Strange and other projects.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that a film with a very small budget that earns over $160 million worldwide is going to get a sequel. No surprise here: after Jason Blum teased a potential sequel to “The Black Phone” at CinemaCon earlier this year, the film now has an official release date. Granted, it’s almost a year and a half away.

The companies say “The Black Phone 2” is the “launch of a sinister new franchise.” The original movie starred Ethan Hawke, as a child abductor and murderer called the Grabber, and Mason Thames, a 13-year-old boy named Finney who crosses the killer’s path.

Shudder, AMC Networks’ streaming service for horror, thrillers and the supernatural, announced today the continuation of Studio71’s found footage anthology franchise, V/H/S, within an all-new installment, V/H/S/85. 

J. Kim Murphy Bassam Tariq has exited his role as director of Marvel Studios’ “Blade.” Tariq’s departure comes as a shock, as production was set to begin in November on Marvel’s new feature about the iconic comic book vampire slayer. The film is set to star Mahershala Ali in the title role, alongside a cast that includes Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre. Although he will no longer be helming “Blade,” sources close to the situation state that Tariq will remain attached to the project as an executive producer. The filmmaker was first confirmed as the director of “Blade” in the summer of 2021.
