Zack Sharf Digital News Director Anthony Mackie has been a stalwart of the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since debuting as Sam Wilson/Falcon in 2014’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” The actor’s MCU tenure has included “Avengers” movies and the Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” and now Mackie is taking on the mantle of Captain America in the upcoming film tentpole “Captain America: Brave New World.” While promoting his latest series “Twisted Metal” in the United Kingdom, Mackie compared the project to his experience making Marvel movies and told Radio Times there was a lot more storytelling freedom to be had outside of the MCU. “I would say the Marvel thing is completely different, just because it’s such a space of controlled entertainment. Like, there’s only so much you can do,” Mackie observed.
Anthony Mackie is getting real about his Marvel Cinematic Universe projects!
EXCLUSIVE: Actress Liv Tyler has signed with CAA.
Zack Sharf Digital News Director Anthony Mackie told Inverse that he was so nervous to shoot opposite Harrison Ford on their first day of filming “Captain America: Brave New World” that he forgot the script. Marvel’s upcoming fourth “Captain America” movie finds Mackie’s Sam Wilson stepping into the title role for the first time in a feature film. Ford is a new addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, replacing the late William Hurt as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. “The first day was so intimidating,” Mackie said. “I was so fucking nervous I couldn’t remember my lines. He’s Harrison fucking Ford. There is this aura about him. But he dispels that really quickly because he’s such a cool guy. He’s everything a movie star should be. He would say, ‘Let’s shoot this piece of shit.’ And everybody was like, ‘Yeah, let’s shoot this shit.’”
Before Anthony Mackie was Captain America, and even before Falcon, he had his eyes on playing another Marvel character.
MCU fans know Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, aka: The Falcon, who will soon don the Captain America mantle in “Captain America: Brave New World” next year. But if Mackie had his way, he’d be another Marvel superhero altogether: Black Panther.
Anthony Mackie will soon hold the distinction of playing not one but two iconic Marvel superheroes, with his previous character — Falcon — picking up Steve Rogers’ shield to become the next Captain America, a transition that will come to fruition in next year’s “Captain America: Brave New World”.
Zack Sharf Digital News Director Anthony Mackie revealed in a new interview with Inverse that he wrote Marvel Studios multiple letters asking to play Black Panther before he joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Sam Wilson/Falcon. Mackie figured the only prominent Black superhero Marvel might develop a movie for is Black Panther, so he put all his cards on playing T’Challa. “I had been contacting Marvel a lot about Black Panther,” Mackie said. “I had written them letters. I was trying to find a way to make them make Black Panther. And I wanted to be Black Panther because growing up I fucking loved Black Panther.” Mackie landed a meeting with longtime Marvel producer Nate Moore and directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who were developing “Captain America: The Winter Solider” at the time. No one told Mackie what part they were meeting him for at the time, so he just presumed it was for Black Panther.
Harrison Ford has gone viral after giving a nonplussed answer to a question about his Marvel character. The actor will make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Captain America: Brave New World, where he plays Thaddeus Ross. The character was originally played by William Hurt, who died in March 2022.During a video interview with ComicBook.com to promote Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny, Ford was asked about Red Hulk – the superpowered alter-ego of Ross, as seen in the original Marvel comics.“The eagle-eyed viewers noticed you were wearing ripped pants.
Harrison Ford has said he never intended to become a “rich and famous” movie star. The actor, who returns to one of his classic roles in upcoming sequel Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny, reflected on his career during an interview with People magazine.“I never thought that I would be a leading man,” Ford said. “I really was just hoping I could make a living as an actor and not have to supplement my income with some other side hustle… I thought I would be lucky to have a character part on a regular TV show.”He added: “No one ever believes this, but I never wanted to be rich and famous.

Marvel Studios has released its first set pic for the upcoming instalment of its first Avengers film, “Captain America 4”.
Zack Sharf Digital News Director Ever since Chris Evans exited the Marvel Cinematic Universe in “Avengers: Endgame,” comic book movie fans have been clamoring for his return as Steve Rogers. It appears they’ll have to keep waiting for now. Speaking at the C2E2 fan convention in Chicago, Evans said a potential Captain America return “doesn’t quite feel right” at the moment. However, Evans did admit that telling more Captain America stories is appealing to him, so never say never. “It’s tough, because look, I love that role deeply,” Evans said when asked about returning as Captain America. “He means so much to me, and I really do. I think there’s more Steve Rogers stories tell, sure. But at the same time, I’m very, very precious with it…it’s like this little shiny thing that I have that I love so much, and I just don’t want to mess up in any way, and I was a part of something that was so special for the special period of time and in a way, it really landed so well.
the MCU, it’s not totally clear, so it’s hard to know if we’ll ever see Chris Evans in the role again. But for what it’s worth, Evans himself says there’s probably more stories to tell with Steve — just not right now.As fans will recall, when last we saw Captain America, he had gone back in time to return the Infinity Stones, and then opted to stay behind and live a full life with his love, Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). In the final minutes of “Avengers: Endgame,” a much, much older Steve hands off the shield to his buddy Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), and by the end of “Falcon and the Winter Soldier” on Disney+, Sam is finally ready to take up the Captain America mantle himself.Going forward, Mackie is now our Captain America (including in the upcoming film “Captain America: New World Order”).

Adam B. Vary Senior Entertainment Writer Liv Tyler is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, 16 years after her last appearance. The actor will appear in 2024’s “Captain America: New World Order,” reprising her role from 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk” as scientist Betty Ross, the daughter of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. That role was originated by the late William Hurt, who reappeared several times for Marvel Studios, starting with 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War,” in which Ross had become Secretary of State. Harrison Ford is stepping into the role of Thaddeus Ross for “New World Order,” in which the character has become President of the United States.

Anthony Mackie picked up Steve Rodger’s iconic shield and became Captain America in the final episodes of his Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. However, is his character Sam Wilson going to follow in Chris Evans‘ footsteps and lead the rest of the Avengers?
Looking out for his partner in crime! Anthony Mackie had some sound advice for David Harbour when it came to working with pal Sebastian Stan — and warned him not to take anything too personally.
David Harbour is a relative newcomer to the MCU — he debuted his role as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian in 2021's and is set to reprise the character in the upcoming team-up. So when it came time to learn everything he could about his future castmates, he turned toco-star Anthony Mackie, who had some particular advice about his franchise frenemy, Sebastian Stan, who will also be appearing in as Bucky Barnes, aka The Winter Soldier. «Sebastian is a very nice person,» Mackie said with a grin as he and co-star Jahi Di'Allo Winston spoke with ET's Ash Crossan this week.«Don't take his quietness and standoffishness as him being mean or rude. You just have to warm him up a little bit,» he teased. «You know, give him some almond butter, talk to him a little bit.
Adam B. Vary Senior Entertainment Writer One of the great charms of the first two “Ant-Man” movies is how little they have to do with the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sure, Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang tussles with Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson in the 2015 original. And yeah, the introduction of the Quantum Realm in the 2018 sequel lays the groundwork for the time travel shenanigans in “Avengers: Endgame.” But generally speaking, audiences could take in Scott’s size-shifting adventures alongside scientist Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), his daughter Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and Hank’s wife and Hope’s mother Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), without needing to be steeped within the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” is a different beast entirely. Despite the assurances of Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige that every Marvel title can exist on its own terms, the third “Ant-Man” film is neck deep in series lore as it launches Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe — and the second act of the Multiverse Saga. Here’s everything you need to know before watching “Quantumania.”
Deadline confirmed the news last October that Harrison Ford would be taking over the role of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross — previously played by the late, great William Hurt — beginning with Phase 5 title Captain America: New World Order. At the time, details about the character and the film’s plot were being kept tightly under wraps.
Phase 5 of the MCU finally gets underway next month with “Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania.” And while it remains unclear how much that movie sets up the rest of the MCU’s next chapter, Marvel fans anticipate Phase 5 will bring its fair share of changes. For example, take “Captain America: New World Order,” which sees Anthony Mackie‘s Sam Wilson officially take over the shield and helmet from Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers.
