Tom Petty’s iconic black & white jacket up for auction

late singer’s wardrobe hit the auction block on Friday and can be bid on online until June 18.The highlight of the lot, which contains 45 pieces of Petty’s prized possessions, is the black-and-white striped satin jacket he donned on the cover of the UK single for his 1978 hit, “Listen to Her Heart.”“For people my age, that’s Tom Petty, you know,” Bobby Livingston, executive vice president of Boston-based RR Auction, which is hosting the sale, told The Post.“Because of people’s love and emotional connection to Tom, I wouldn’t be surprised if this goes somewhere in the mid-five figures.”The eclectic clothing collection is from Petty’s Encino, California, home, which Chase Bank took possession of in 2015.“When he divorced his first wife [Jane Benyo], she got the house and then she defaulted on the mortgage, so the bank took possession of the home and its contents and these were all disposed of by the bank,” explained Livingston. Other articles for sale belonging to the “Free Fallin'” rocker, who died in 2017 at age 66 from an accidental overdose, include the black denim jacket he sported on tour with Guns N’ Roses in 1987 and during a 1989 MTV Video Music Awards performance with Axl Rose.He also had a penchant for wearing hats, and many of them, including a Burmese cap adorned with yellow flowers and two elephants, are included in the assortment.

Anita Kerr, Leader of Famed Backup Chorale the Anita Kerr Singers, Dies at 94

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic Grammy winning singer and arranger Anita Kerr, whose vocal ensemble the Anita Kerr Singers became a staple of hit pop and country recordings in the 1950s and ’60s, has died at age 94. Her daughter Kelley Kerr confirmed the death in a social media post, writing, “Such sad news and what a great loss for the music industry. Anita was a legend in her time but first and foremost she was my mother. May you rest in peace. I will forever miss you but I am comforted in knowing that you are now singing with angels. You are forever in my heart.” Kerr’s vocal arrangement sound was considered a key component in the “countrypolitan” or “Nashville sound” era of country music, in which the music saw the addition of strings and background vocals, lending lusher elements to recordings by some of the genre’s top stars, perhaps most notably Patsy Cline and Jim Reeves. The smoother take on country lent itself to less rough-hewn crossover hits.

With ‘Bronco,’ Orville Peck Goes In An Unexpected Direction

Bronco (★★★☆☆), bouncing back from a rough couple years with a newfound sense of confidence and a surprising willingness to offer a peek behind the mask. From the beginning, Peck has made a name for himself as a queer country star, dealing with decidedly queer subject matter in his videos and promotional material, headlining gay events and collaborating with a stable of A-list drag queens.Despite embracing that sense of unapologetic queerness in his career writ large, it has never felt quite as prominent in his music, where it comes off as subtle and somewhat impersonal when it does show up.Bronco is a departure here too, feeling more full-throatedly gay than his previous outings. On “Daytona Sand,” his love letter to Florida that kicks off the album, it is easy to imagine him making doe eyes when he sings, “So hit the road, big blonde/Take me home to Mississippi.”On the viscerally relatable “Blush,” he cheekily sings about the frustrations and pitfalls of loving other men.

Lone Star State Sings Praises for Songwriters Who Define Texan Culture

Chris Willman Music WriterThe maxim “everything’s bigger in Texas” most definitely applies when it comes to having an outsized per capita concentration of brilliant songwriters. So, it’s almost surprising to realize that it took until 2005 for a Texas Heritage Songwriters Association to be formed, for the purpose of finally founding a Hall of Fame. One key figure in its origins was a beloved Texan not everyone realizes had a reputation as “a lover of the song, and a friend to songwriters”: University of Texas football coach Darrell K.
