Series creator Meredith Scardino regularly sends music supervisor (and fellow executive producer) Jeff Rich- mond and his team voice memos singing her lyrics to the show’s latest absurd songs, such as “Home Alone Doorknob” or “Sweet’N Low Daddy.” By season’s end, Sara Bareilles also gets in on the fun.

In Netflix series Girls5Eva the band gets back together — literally. The titular all-female pop group hit the skids back in the early aughts, but when a hip hop star samples their old hit song 20 years later, the women grab their second chance, leading to some questionable outfit choices and calamitous video shoots. As self-proclaimed band leader, Wickie Roy, Hamilton Tony-winner Renée Elise Goldsberry deadpans her way through deliberately terrible songs written by co-star Sara Bareilles, alongside Paula Pell and Busy Phillips. With the show in its third season, Goldsberry says it reminds us it’s never too late to chase our dreams.

Ted Danson and Holly Hunter led a workplace comedy that delightfully skewered Los Angeles while setting up some amazing character dynamics.

Kristen Wiig is officially a Five-Timer!

Kristen Wiig received a star-studded reception last night when she hosted “Saturday Night Live” for the fifth time allowing her to join the elite “Five-Timers Club.” “I am so happy to be back, and I am so excited because it is my fifth time hosting, so I am officially in the five-timers club,” Wiig, 50, told the excited crowd. After taking a moment to welcome the “SNL” band, the “Palm Royale” star explained the significance of the club to the gathered audience. “So I have to say as a former cast member, it is very special being a five-timer,” Wiig said shortly before being interrupted by Paul Rudd who asks the “Bridesmaids” star if he could be part of the sketch where she gets her jacket.

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large A star-studded group of veteran “Saturday Night Live” guest hosts were on hand this evening to welcome Kristen Wiig into the “Five-Timers Club.” But much to Wiig’s chagrin, most of them haven’t matched her feat of actually hosting “SNL” five times. The former “Saturday Night Live” cast member made her fifth appearance as host — having previously hit the stage in 2013, 2016 and twice in 2020. The stolen “SNL” valor actually began with a legit five-timer: Paul Rudd, on hand to welcome her from the audience.

Get ready for more animated Dr Seuss adaptations on the big screen. Bill Hader (“Barry”) is set to play the titular “The Cat In The Hat” for Warner Bros.

The new Warner Bros. Pictures Animation under President Bill Damaschke has booked the cast for their upcoming feature take of the Dr. Seuss classic, The Cat in the Hat, which they’re producing with Dr. Seuss Enterprises with SNL alum Bill Hader playing the title role. Joining him are Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Bowen Yang (SNL), Xochitl Gomez (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness), Matt Berry (What We Do in The Shadows) and Paula Pell (Girls5eva).

A musical comedy television series created by Meredith Scardino, “Girls5eva,” started life as a Peacock series before getting canceled after a second season. Centering on a one-hit-wonder band from the ’90s who gain a second shot at fame when a young rapper samples their song, the series, fortunately, had enough ride-or-die fans that Netflix deemed it worthy of a season pick-up and bought it from Peacock for season three, which is soon approaching.

The girls are back. Netflix has released a trailer ahead of the upcoming third season of Girls5Eva, the musical comedy series from creator and executive producer Meredith Scardino (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt). The series moved to Netflix in October 2022 from its previous home on Peacock for its first two seasons. All six episodes of the third season premiere March 14 on the streamer, alongside previously released seasons 1 and 2.

Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter Netflix has emerged victorious in a bidding war for “The Fifth Wheel,” a comedy starring Kim Kardashian. Several major players, including theatrical distributors and streamers, were competing for the film, according to Deadline, which first reported news of the sale. But two of the five companies backed out at the last minute before Kardashian and co-writers Paula Pell and Janine Brito signed with Netflix on the dotted line.

EXCLUSIVE: Following a nearly week long competitive bidding war that saw five bids from various suitors that included theatrical distributors and streamers, the comedy package The Fifth Wheel starring Kim Kardashian has sold to Netflix.
