Jessica Biel is making her anticipated return to TV as the real-life axe murderer, Candy Montgomery, in the Hulu true-crime series, simply called. Ahead of the five-night event beginning in May, the streaming platform revealed the first full trailer, showing Biel’s dramatic transformation into the 1980s housewife. The series, adapted from Jim Atkinson and John Bloom’s nonfiction book, , chronicles what happened between Montgomery and Betty Gore, whose friendship ended in bloodshed. According to Hulu, “Candy Montgomery is a 1980s housewife and mother who did everything right — good husband, two kids, nice house, even the careful planning and execution of transgressions — but when the pressure of conformity builds within her, her actions scream for just a bit of freedom.

Wilson Chapman editorJessica Biel is stepping into the shoes of one of true crime’s most notorious killers in the first trailer for Hulu’s “Candy.”Biel stars in the series as Candy Montgomery, a seemingly normal housewife in small town Wylie, Tex., who was convicted in 1980 for the brutal axe murder of her neighbor Betty Gore, played in the show by Melanie Lynskey.The teaser trailer shows Biel transform into Candy, with curly hair and large rimmed-glasses. Footage of her going about her daily life in suburbia is juxtaposed with narration from her trial, as a lawyer played by Raúl Esparza (“Hannibal”) questions her about her relationship with Betty.“I had no angry feelings towards her if that’s what the question is,” Biel says in the trailer.

The show, which intends to put a new spin on the central storyline, while still bringing the original feel of the video game franchise to life, takes place hundreds of years in the future, in the midst of a massive war. In, Pablo Schreiber stars as Master Chief, a super-soldier trained to battle an alien group known as the Covenant.

Don’t worry, that’s just Jessica Biel! The 39-year-old actress looked totally different as she was spotted on-set in costume for her latest role playing the axe-killer. While there have been live-action adaptations of the hit Xbox sci-fi shooter video game series, “Halo,” in the past, Paramount+ will be the home to a very ambitious show that sees various characters like Master Chief get live-action counterparts. The expensive series seems to have won over the brass at Paramount after a very long and drawn-out production in Budapest during the pandemic.

Master Chief will stay locked and loaded for Paramount+, which has renewed Halo for a second season. The renewal was unveiled during a ViacomCBS presentation on Tuesday.

Halo, after more than eight winding years in development, will finally land at Paramount+ this spring.
