Johnny Marr says he quit drinking after gifting Noel Gallagher with guitar

Johnny Marr has said that gifting Noel Gallagher with an expensive guitar – after he smashed the previous one – is partly what motivated him to stop drinking.Marr previously recalled the time he gave a young, “skint” Gallagher his guitars before the pre-Oasis guitarist could afford his own.“He was just this guy who I recognised was intense and really serious about what he was doing, and he was skint and I had a load of guitars and I thought, ‘right OK well I’ll give him this guitar’,” he told Radio X.The Smiths guitarist gave Gallagher a 1960 Gibson Les Paul – which can be heard on The Smiths’ 1986 album ‘The Queen Is Dead’, and was formerly owned by The Who‘s Pete Townshend – only for him to smash it while dealing with a stage invader during a gig in Newcastle.Gallagher called Marr to ask for a replacement, after which the guitarist gifted his black 1978 Gibson Les Paul Custom.Marr also gave his 12-string sunburst Gibson 335, which features in the video for ‘Sheila Take a Bow’, to former Suede guitarist and producer Bernard Butler.“It’s just to be nice,” Marr told The Guardian. “As simple as that.

Liam Gallagher says Noel turned down offer to take part in ‘Definitely Maybe’ tour

Liam Gallagher has claimed that Noel Gallagher turned down the opportunity to take part in the upcoming ‘Definitely Maybe’ tour.News of the UK tour was announced yesterday (October 16) and confirmed that Liam would be hitting the road to celebrate 30 years of Oasis’ debut album ‘Definitely Maybe’.The live shows follow on from an update shared by the singer earlier this year in which he reflected on the milestone and teased fans by saying that he was looking for a way to play the 1994 album in full.Liam continued to tease the prospect, later announcing that he’d be playing “naughty” B-sides from the era too as well ‘Half The World Away’ sung by his brother, former bandmate and Oasis’ chief songwriter, Noel. However unfortunately for fans it looks like his brother and ex-bandmate has no intention of taking part in the upcoming tour. The live shows will instead be more of a solo venture for Liam. This news came when Liam took to X (formerly Twitter) earlier today (October 17) to confirm that he offered his brother the chance to participate in the Oasis tour but that no plans ever materialised.“He’s been asked and he’s refused,” he wrote, responding to a fan who asked when he was going to announce Noel’s involvement in the tour. He’s been asked and he’s refused— Liam Gallagher (@liamgallagher) October 17, 2023The 12-date ‘Definitely Maybe 30 Years’ UK and Ireland tour will kick off in Sheffield on June 2 before making stops in Cardiff, Glasgow and Dublin.Three dates at London’s O2 venue are also planned, as are three in his hometown of Manchester, held at the Co-Op Live venue.“I’m bouncing around the house to announce the ‘Definitely Maybe’ Tour,” he said at the time.

Noel Gallagher hits out at VAR in Premier League and “disastrous” Howard Webb

Noel Gallagher has hit out at the use of video assisted refereeing (VAR) in the Premier League and has also called Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) chief Howard Webb “disastrous”.Gallagher, a Manchester City fan, saw his team lose to Arsenal 1-0 over the weekend. He spoke to talkSPORT about Tottenham’s 2-1 win to Liverpool last week after Luis Diaz was incorrectly ruled offside following a VAR blunder. The referring association, PGMOL, have since apologised to Liverpool, releasing an audio to talk through how the error occurred as part of the greater transparency PGMOL Chief Howard had previously pledged.Gallagher, however, had some strong opinions about Webb and VAR.When asked about the blunder at Liverpool last week, Gallagher said of Webb: “All I will say is, this guy Howard Webb, since he’s been brought in to sort stuff out it’s been nothing short of an absolute disaster.“Nobody wants it VAR, it kills the vibe in the ground, they cannot get it right.“For the life of me, I cannot understand why they don’t use the same system they use in the Champions League, I can’t understand why [Premier League clubs voted against it].“It seems to be really definitive and fan friendly, I imagine the system here will get thrown out.

Noel Gallagher has been issued a six month driving ban – despite never actually learning how to drive.According to an update by the Evening Standard, the Britpop icon uses a £120,000 chauffeur-driven Range Rover to commute, and famously gave up on getting his own licence in the mid-’90s, while Oasis were at the peak of their fame. However, over recent months, the High Flying Birds singer has supposedly gotten in trouble for speeding various times and racked up an impressive fine along the way.Back in June, he was issued a speeding ticket as well as six penalty points on his licence, a £742 fine and costs and court fees totalling £396. Gallagher’s driver took responsibility for the speeding violation and letters from the Met Police going unanswered, but it was the musician who faced the repercussions, as he was the registered owner of the vehicle.Appearing at Lavender Hill magistrates court yesterday (September 6), the former Oasis member faced the consequences of two more speeding tickets from earlier this year.
