Why insist on putting yourself through this reliving of your high school experience? One of the things I say a lot when I was trying to get the film made is “I go home so you don’t have to.” I’ve always been interested in archetypal stories or if there’s a story about one person’s life, it’s meant to be something that resonates. Personal films, they only work if people can relate, otherwise it’s just narcissism. How many people are out there who are like me? Who are outsiders? Because one of the things I came to understand by making this film is how the hierarchy and the politics of high school separate us from one another so there’s that sense of “I’m the only one.” It’s kind of like a lost tribe of people that we run away and we don’t necessarily keep up with people.
Lots of thoughts! And some Keith Urban highlights!
When Kerry Condon heard her Oscar nomination announced in the early hours of the morning in LA, she was clustered around the television with a group that included her Banshees of Inisherin co-star Colin Farrell. “I remember thinking, ‘Oh Jesus, hang on though. What if it’s bad for one of us?’” Condon says. Fortunately, neither actor was left out in the cold. Making Banshees was a chance for the actress to reunite with writer-director Martin McDonagh, in whose plays and the film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri she had already starred. The Banshees character of Siobhán lets Condon show us her chops — from a scene in which she gently lets down the amorous but tortured young Dominic (Barry Keoghan), to telling Brendan Gleeson’s bull-headed Colm (and men in general), “You’re all feckin’ boring!” Here, Condon reflects on her career thus far and some of her onscreen favorites.

In Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, Daniel Radcliffe steps into a surrealist, fictionalized take on the rise to fame of the quirky accordion player and singer. “Being British, I think the first time I ever heard him referenced was in The Simpsons,” Radcliffe says. Featuring a cast of cameos so unexpected and rich that even the Harry Potter star was constantly taken aback, the film led him to attempt the accordion for real, in this latest of a series of roles in which he has leaned into his comedic and musical chops. He recalls the films that make him cry and his early life on set, and quietly admits to a penchant for The Bachelor franchise.
