Lionsgate has dropped the second trailer for “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.” Based on Suzanne Collins’ prequel novel of the same name, the upcoming film follows a young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth), who strives to revive his family’s legacy. In the midst of his efforts, he is tasked with mentoring District 12’s tribute and Panem’s favorite, Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler). Coriolanus works with Lucy to keep her alive in the Hunger Games, and he begins to battle between good and evil.

Francis Lawrences directed every “Hunger Games” sequel and is back for the Lionsgate prequel, which features “West Side Story” breakout Rachel Zegler in the lead role of Lucy Gray Baird, a tribute from District 12 who is mentored by a young Snow (Tom Blyth) for the 10th annual Hunger Games. “Katniss was an introvert and a survivor,” Lawrence told Empire magazine about the big difference between Katniss and Lucy.

At last year’s convention, the studio only brought a short clip (sans movie footage or even a cast list) of “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” which left much to be desired. The trailer begins with Viola Davis, who plays the head gamemaker Volumnia Gaul, introducing “the creators of the Hunger Games themselves.” But there’s a change in this year’s dystopian event, warns Academy dean Casca Highbottom.
