From there, someone is heard crying for help while another voice says “No, I don’t know what it is”.

While Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus” film series was basically killed off after its underperforming sequel, “Alien: Covenant,” clearly, 20 Century Studios believes the show must go on for the Alien/xenomorph franchise. And maybe it needs a cheaper cast to be cost-effective.

What to make of Fede Álvarez‘s “Alien: Romulus“? Fans still don’t know much about it as the upcoming sequel’s August 16 theatrical release approaches. There’s been bits of chatter about the movie, though.

Alex Ritman “Rye Lane” was one of the standout British indie films of 2023, a lively and delightfully-spun rom-com set in the south of London that helped add a fresh coat of paint to a genre that had been fading for several years. From first-time director Raine Allen Miller and led by rising stars Vivian Oparah and David Jonsson, both Londoners themselves, the film was hailed by critics at the Sundance Film Festival before being released in March. But despite the immense love that “Rye Lane” generated, resulting in a record 16 nominations at the British Independent Film Awards in December, few experts would have suggested it had the momentum to plant a flag in BAFTA’s main performance categories, especially given the competition.

Vivian Oparah is aware of the spotlight on her following her BAFTA Film Awards nomination for her breakthrough performance in Searchlight’s romance movie Rye Lane, but she feels it’s imperative that she “stay grounded” because it’s a more disparate path towards stardom for Black actresses.

Douglas is taking on the role of Major Horton and will star alongside David Jonsson as Fitzwilliam and Penelope Wilton as Miss Pinkerton.The series takes place in England, 1954, where on a train to London, Fitzwilliam meets Miss Pinkerton, who tells him that a killer is on the loose in the sleepy English village of Wychwood under Ashe.The villagers believe the deaths are mere accidents, but Miss Pinkerton knows otherwise – and when she's later found dead on her way to Scotland Yard, Fitzwilliam feels he must find the killer before they can strike again.

Alien film franchise is scheduled to be released in 2024.As reported by Variety, the ninth film in the franchise will be released on August 16, 2024, as production on various Disney projects continues to be affected by the ongoing Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) strike.The next Alien film is produced by Ridley Scott and directed by Fede Álvarez, who is best known for directing Don’t Breathe and 2013’s Evil Dead. The film’s script is co-written by Álvarez and his longtime collaborator Rodo Sayagues.Confirmed cast members include Cailee Spaeny (Pacific Rim Uprising), Isabela Merced, David Jonsson (Industry), Archie Renaux (Shadow And Bone), Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu.The untitled installment has been described as a standalone entry, which will be the seventh mainline entry in the franchise overall.

Rye Lane is the kind of rom-com people like to complain don't get made any more. Sweet, funny, tender, and with a great sense of place (in this instance south London), it's a breezy watch that will have you longing to make a trip to Peckham in search of someone to help get you through your next heartbreak. It also comes with a great score courtesy of London's own kwes.

Few feature films in recent memory have generated as much excitement around the city of London as Searchlight’s latest pic Rye Lane.

Directed by Raine Anne-Miller, it’s an infectiously funny and stylish feature debut that tells the story of Dom (David Jonsson, “Industry”) and Yas (Vivian Oparah, “Class”), who find connection with each other while getting over their respective breakups.  The film, written by “Bloods” scribes Nathan Bryon and Tom Melia, had its world premiere at Sundance in January. Ahead of the film’s U.K. premiere – taking place at the infamous Peckhamplex, which features in the movie – Variety caught up with Anne-Miller, Jonsson and Oparah in London earlier this week to chat about first meetings, inventive camerawork and much more.

According to a new plot synopsis provided by the studio, the film will follow “a group of young people on a distant world, who find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.” Also officially joining the project are Archie Renaux (“Shadow and Bone”), Isabela Merced (“Rosaline”), Spike Fearn (“The Batman”) and Aileen Wu (“Away From Home”).

Charna Flam 20th Century Studios has announced new plot details, cast additions and production status for the latest “Alien” film. While the premise for the yet-to-be-titled movie has been kept under wraps, the studio did reveal that the film will follow “a group of young people on a distant world, who find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.” Those who will be faced with the terrifying forms are David Jonsson (“Industry”), Archie Renaux (“Shadow and Bone”), Isabela Merced (“Rosaline”), Spike Fearn (“The Batman”) and Aileen Wu (“Away from Home”), all of whom will join the previously announced lead, Cailee Spaeny (“Mare of Easttown”).

Best known for playing Tanya Adeola in the “Doctor Who” spinoff “Class,” Oparah currently stars in the forthcoming rom-com “Rye Lane,” which premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival. In the film, Oparah stars as Yas, while David Jonsson (“Industry”) plays Dom, two twenty-somethings reeling from bad break-ups who connect over the course of an eventful day in South London. (The film gets its title from the real-life Rye Lane in Peckham.) The rom-com follows the pair as they “help each other deal with their nightmare exes, potentially restoring their faith in romance.” The Searchlight Pictures movie is directed by Raine Allen Miller, in her feature debut, from a screenplay by Nathan Bryon and Tom Melia. “Rye Lane” will be released on March 31 via Hulu in the U.S. and on Star internationally.

There are some moments when you look at the state of the rom-com and you feel like you’ve seen it all. How many different ways can two disparate people meet in a cute way and then fall in love? Sometimes, filmmakers try to inject a bit of action into the mix to liven it up.
