Deadline reports. The show will pick up years after the original series — which ran from July 1992 to March 1999 — and provide an update on its beloved characters. While many of the plot points, and cast members for that matter, remain shrouded in mystery, it was verified that the new reboot would involve the death of one of the original characters prompting the return of Amanda Woodward (Locklear), Sydney Andrews (Zuniga, 61) and Jo Reynolds (Leighton, 55). “When one of their dearest friends dies suddenly, the residents of ‘Melrose Place’ gather to honor the deceased,” the show’s logline reads.
Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large Apparently TV can’t get enough “Melrose Place.” The campy sudser from the 1990s, which was already rebooted once in the 2010s, is looking to make another comeback — and this time with three of the OG stars. Heather Locklear (who was always billed as a “special guest star” back in the day, although once joining the drama she quickly took lead), Laura Leighton and Daphne Zuniga are all back to reprise their roles in the latest reboot, this time from writer Lauren Gussis. Gussis will also exec produce with Leighton, Zuniga, Tiffany Grant and Jason Weinberg.

EXCLUSIVE: After a decade at Paramount Global and its predecessors ViacomCBS and Viacom, Darren Star is making a move. In a competitive situation, the prolific TV creator of such shows as Beverly Hills, 90210, Sex and the City and Emily In Paris, has signed a big multi-year overall deal at Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. No one is commenting on the size of the pact, but I hear it is in the eight figures and in the top tier of premium overall deals; certainly the biggest we have seen since the end of the strikes.

It hails from Jax Media UK, which commissioned up-and-comer Garritty to generate four scripts before the comedy was pitched to Showtime. MacDonald (Poker Face, Shantaram) has been tapped to direct it.

Julie Vincent Guest Contributor Arnaud Binard, who plays Laurent in the Netflix series “Emily in Paris,” shared his thoughts on the show during the Monte-Carlo Television Festival. He praised the show’s creator for going beyond the surface and exploring deeper themes. “I think the incredible talent of Darren Star is to transcend all the things you would call clichés into something very substantial, into something very human. And at the end of the day, the show is going a little bit further,” Binard said. The actor joined the show in its second season due to scheduling conflicts during the first season.
Sophia Scorziello editor When you talk to Candace Bushnell, you don’t really see Carrie Bradshaw. Instead, you see more of a Samantha Jones, a fabulous blonde woman wearing sunglasses inside her Sag Harbor home in the Hamptons. She’s put together, and eager to get down to business — she says she’s working on being her own Mr. Big rather than searching for him. In the mid-1990s, Bushnell wrote a column for the New York Observer titled Sex and the City. There, she examined Manhattan life through the sex lives and relationships of her and her friends. As the column progressed, she began writing about herself under the pen name “Carrie Bradshaw.”
