Prey, the latest Predator film, has received rave reactions from critics ahead of its release on Disney+.A prequel to the first four instalments of the Predator franchise, the film takes place in the Comanche Nation in 1975, as a highly skilled warrior protects her tribe from an evolved alien that hunts humans for sport.Prey is directed by Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane), who introduced the film to crowds at Comic-Con on Thursday, July 21.Those who have seen the film have since been sharing their glowing reviews on social media, with many describing it as the best Predator movie since the 1987 original with Arnold Schwarzenegger.Collider critic Perri Nemiroff wrote: “#Prey is my favorite Predator movie. (Coming from someone who’s a big fan of the original and also 2010’s Predators.) The next chapter in the “Predator” franchise is near. On Tuesday, 20th Century and Disney+ released the full trailer for “Prey”, an all-new action-thriller from 20th Century Studios directed by Dan Trachtenberg.

20th Century Studios announced today that its action-thriller Prey, marking the newest entry in the Predator franchise, will debut exclusively on Hulu in the U.S. on August 5th, unspooling as a Star+ Original in Latin America, and as a Star Original on Disney+ in all other territories.

We’ve known for a while now that 20th Century Studios was hoping to reboot the “Predator” franchise with a new film in the series from director Dan Trachtenberg. The working title that was used during filming was simply called “Skulls,” but no other information was revealed.

On Disney+ Day, the studio announced that its new Predator movie was set to drop in summer 2022, and will be entitled Prey. For some time, the pic was shot under the title Skulls. 

Director Dan Trachtenberg (“10 Cloverfield,” “The Boys“) is currently shooting his secretive “Predator 5” movie in Calgary, but that isn’t the only sci-fi property he’s expected to breath new life into.

A follow-up to Universal’s 1995 movie Waterworld, starring Kevin Costner, is in the works for the small screen. The project, which hails from original producer John Davis and his Davis Entertainment is in very early development at UCP, sources tell Deadline. Davis tells Collider, which first reported the project, that Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) is attached to direct.

It’s hard to believe that four years after the release of “10 Cloverfield Lane,” we still don’t have a new feature film from director Dan Trachtenberg. Sure, he’s circled a number of projects, including being one of the many filmmakers to come aboard and leave “Uncharted.” He’s even got a new “Predator” film lined up.

I do not envy anyone writing a horror franchise, much less those writing on one that only has one good installment like “Predator.” John McTiernan‘s 1987 film with Arnold Schwarzenegger is god-tier classic. Still, unlike James Cameron’s “Aliens,” this franchise was never able to find a second installment that breathed new life into it.
