Kaley Cuoco really hopes she and boyfriend, Tom Pelphrey, will one day get the chance to work together.
It’s hard to watch characters as aggressively inconsistent and generally stupid as Ava and Nathan Bartlett for a whole season. The two leads of Craig Rosenberg’s new Peacock thriller/comedy make dumb decision after dumb decision, and most of them, well, don’t ring true.
Marc Malkin Senior Film Awards, Events & Lifestyle Editor Playing a man who gets entangled in a murder investigation because his wife (Kaley Cuoco) is obsessed with true crime, “Based on a True Story” kind of hits close to home for Chris Messina. When he was a kid, he and a friend actually may have actually discovered a crime scene. “I grew up in Northport, Long Island,” Messina told Variety at the Peacock series’ premiere Thursday at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood. “I grew up on Makamah Road, about a block from the Long Island Sound. A buddy and I walked to the Sound and – it was very ‘Stand By Me’ – we found a hand that washed up on the beach.” They immediately called the cops. “We had to report it,” Messina recalled. “I was pretending to be River Phoenix in ‘Stand By Me.’”

The Boogeyman will be terrifying audiences on the big screen this week (June 2), having already received positive reviews.Directed by Rob Savage (Dashcam), The Boogeyman is a supernatural horror based on the work of Stephen King. It follows bereaved high school student Sadie Harper (Sophie Thatcher) and her sister Sawyer (Vivien Lyra Blair) who are haunted by a terrifying entity.Other cast members include Chris Messina, Marin Ireland, Madison Hu, LisaGay Hamilton and David Dastmalchian. The film is based on a short story by King, which was first published in the March 1973 issue of the American magazine Cavalier.
William Earl While many horror movies are saddled with two-dimensional characters, the biggest strength of “The Boogeyman” is centering the story around a family that genuinely seems to love each other, which ratchets up the tension. The film’s cast had a unique path to finding the chemistry before the cameras even rolled, taking two weeks to act as a family in real life to deepen their bonds. “Mindy Project” alum and “Air” scene-stealer Chris Messina stars as Will Harper, a widowed dad who, despite being a therapist, can’t communicate with his daughters about the pain they’re all feeling. Messina said he was able to get in the right zone with “Yellowjackets” star Sophie Thatcher, who played his teen daughter Sadie, and Vivien Lyra Blair, who played the younger Sawyer, because of their family outings.
from playing the lovable girl next door as Penny in to her more gritty character in, it seems everything the incredibly talented actress Kaley Cuoco touches turns to gold. Her latest role in Peacock's looks as if it will be no different. Created by the executive producer of Prime Video's hit series Craig Rosenberg and and star Jason Bateman, is a new binge-worthy comedy — starring and s Chris Messina alongside Cuoco— inspired by real events.
Marc Malkin Senior Film Awards, Events & Lifestyle Editor Back in April, James Gunn told me what he was looking for in the new Man of Steel for “Superman: Legacy.” “The next Superman has to be someone who has all the humanity that Superman has, but he’s also an alien,” he said. “It’s gotta be somebody who has the kindness and the compassion that Superman has and be somebody who you want to give a hug.” He added, “We have some really great choices, which I’m excited about.” Could former “The Bold and the Beautiful” star Pierson Fodé be on Gunn’s list? I hear that the 31-year-old actor could be in the running for the coveted role. Sources tell me that Fodé sent in a self-tape, which included a montage of footage showing his very Clark Kent-like childhood on a farm in the small town of Moses Lake, Wash. I’m told Gunn liked what he saw.
The Boogeyman” is here.Based on the short story by Stephen King (originally published in a 1973 issue of Playboy competitor Cavalier and collected in King’s 1978 anthology “Night Shift”), the slender story was first adapted by “A Quiet Place” writers Scott Beck and Bryan Woods in 2018 for 20th Century Fox. When Disney acquired the company in 2019, development was canceled, only to be revived in late 2021.
The Boogeyman” is a very common childhood nightmare. He’s the reason we checked under our beds at night and made our parents triple check the closet. In 1973, Stephen King wrote a short story called “The Boogeyman” about a man who visits a therapist and explains that a monster has killed all of his children, one by one.

Kaley Cuoco is on the case in the brand new trailer for her upcoming Peacock series, Based on a True Story.
The first glimpse at Kaley Cuoco’s latest series, “Based on a True Story”, has dropped.
Kaley Cuoco has her sights set on solving a murder. In Peacock's dark comedic thriller, Cuoco plays Ava, who dreams up the idea to start a true-crime podcast when a serial killer «that's basically in [her] backyard» begins to garner national attention. It's the perfect answer to the financial problems she and her beau, Nathan (Chris Messina), are facing as he recently lost his job, they're expecting a baby and they're very, very behind on bills. When another murder takes place literally in front of their very eyes, it's almost as if the universe is giving them a nudge.
McKinley Franklin editor Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina are obsessed with all things murder in the first official trailer for Peacock’s original series “Based On A True Story.” “Based On A True Story” spoofs the culture’s fascination with true crime, spinning a dark comedic thriller about a realtor, a former tennis star and a plumber as they capitalize on murders in their area. Peacock released the first look at the new series during NBCUniversal’s Upfront presentation at Radio City Music Hall on Monday morning. “I became fascinated with the idea of a relatable married couple whose youthful dreams hadn’t come to fruition and who saw the true crime tidal wave as an opportunity to change their lives and save their marriage,” said series creator Craig Rosenberg has stated. “Our Los Angeles setting – the city where everybody wants to be famous – became a vivid backdrop to our story of fame, ambition, aspiration and murder.”

—and very excited to do it—but gave a heartfelt explaining that she was stepping down out of respect for those on the picket lines who would have normally been writing for the annual awards show. The awards are still scheduled to go on without a host, but it remains to be seen just how pared down it will be. More on that below. In other news, if you have yet to catch up on the with Elizabeth Olsen, Lily Rabe, Jesse Plemons, and more, then this is the week to do it.
Peacock is taking a satirical approach to the true crime genre in its latest offering, Based on a True Story.
After 38 days in theateres, Amazon Studios, Skydance Sports, Mandalay Pictures, and Artists Equity’s Air will stream on Prime Video on May 12 in more than 240 countries.
Angelique Jackson It’s time to lace up your kicks: Ben Affleck’s “Air” will be available to stream on Prime Video beginning May 12. “Air” debuted April 5 on more than 3,500 screens, which marked an unprecedented theatrical release for Amazon, as the studio affirmed its billion-dollar commitment to making movies for the big screen. The film is produced by Amazon Studios, Skydance Sports, Mandalay Pictures, and is the inaugural project from Affleck and Matt Damon’s Artists Equity. Directed by Affleck, from a script by Alex Convery, “Air” tells the true story of how Nike’s basketball division signed then-NBA rookie Michael Jordan into a historic partnership that revolutionized the world of endorsement deals with the creation of the Air Jordan brand.
Host), The Boogeyman is a supernatural horror based on King’s 1973 short story. The film follows bereaved high school student Sadie Harper (Sophie Thatcher) and her sister Sawyer (Vivien Lyra Blair) who are haunted by a terrifying entity.Speaking to Empire, Savage explained that a sequence showing the monster had to be recut after the intense response from audiences during test screenings.“The first time you see the creature, the audience screamed so loud, and then immediately started talking with their neighbours and chattering, that they completely missed the next lines,” Savage said.
post-COVID theatrical gambit, “Air,” tells the mostly untold story of how Nike convinced a promising NBA rookie named Michael Jordan to sign with them over the market-dominating likes of Addidas and Converse. Directed by Ben Affleck and starring Matt Damon alongside a packed ensemble cast, the film also stars Viola Davis, Chris Tucker, Jason Bateman, Marlon Wayans and Chris Messina and has debuted to mostly rapturous reviews and early-bird Oscar buzz. It’s also the feature screenwriting debut of 25-year-old Alex Convery.
Air, the about Nike's signing of rookie Michael Jordan in 1984, take place in a dimly lit office, without other people present, and over the phone. And yet, in a film that includes heavyweights Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Viola Davis, Jason Bateman, and Chris Tucker, Messina stands out.
Air, whether because of (it's her husband Ben Affleck's film), that Viola Davis play his mom in the movie, or from the countless promos on TV, social media, and just about everywhere. And I'll be honest, when I first heard about the story—about the game-changing partnership between a then rookie Michael Jordan and Nike’s fledgling basketball division—I wasn't like, get me to the theater now.I love a good sports movie (The Natural, Field of Dreams, and Rocky among them), but growing up without a local NBA team or an obsession with Nike meant I wasn't totally sold. Still, I was interested enough that I made the trek to Amazon Studios for the press screening.
Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel’s ongoing “feud” continues.
Ben Affleck's best efforts, it doesn't seem like the longstanding feud between Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon will be ending any time soon.Affleck sat down on Tuesday's, while promoting his new film, which stars himself and Damon.«You have so many great performances in this, so many, I can't even pick who I liked the best,» Kimmel gushed during the chat. «You were great in it, Chris Messina, Chris Tucker… Viola Davis, Julius [Tennon], her husband... We had all the great people from the cast on the show.»«Well, you're leaving someone out,» Affleck said, delicately. «I mean, Matt Damon's the lead.»No, well, I said all the people from the film," Kimmel replied.«I understand you have your feuds and everything, but Matt is a friend of mine,» Affleck implored. «Honest to God, it would mean a lot to me if you just asked him one question about the movie.
