After seemingly toiling around in development at Universal, it appears the studio’s “Dracula” spinoff/reimagining, “Renfield,” is picking up some momentum. With a new director, and now a big star, we might just see “Renfield” on the big screen soon enough.

EXCLUSIVE: Less then a week after landing a starring role in Searchlight’s The Menu, Nicholas Hoult looks to have found another project to add to that dance card. Sources tell Deadline, Hoult is on board to star in Universal Pictures’ Renfield, a monster movie centered on Dracula’s familiar henchman. The Tomorrow War director Chris McKay is on board to helm the pic, which is based on an original story outline from Robert Kirkman.

Following reports of strong viewership numbers from third-party sources like SambaTV, Amazon Studios is doubling down on the success of “The Tomorrow War.” which they clearly believe can be a viable streaming franchise.
