Following the success of the official opening season of Aviva Studios, Factory International has announced a captivating line up for its 2024 spring programme at the city's landmark venue.

David Gilmour has announced ‘Luck And Strange’ – his first solo album in nine years with the LP’s first offering being released later this week.The former Pink Floyd guitarist is set to release the album’s lead single ‘The Piper’s Call’ on Thursday (April 25) on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show. The track’s accompanying music video will be released on Friday (April 26).‘Luck and Strange’ is set for release on September 6.

Netflix hit Baby Reindeer has revealed that he “feels sorry” for the stalker character in the show.The show has been created by comedian Richard Gadd, and is based on his 2019 one-man play of the same name. It depicts a version of the real-life story of his own stalking ordeal.The synopsis clarifies that the show focuses “on struggling comedian Donny Dunn’s (Gadd) strange and layered relationship with a woman named Martha (Jessica Gunning), whose initially friendly demeanour unravels as she begins to stalk Donny relentlessly”.“Their first interaction is innocent enough: While working his shift as a bartender, Donny shows an act of kindness to Martha, a customer whose vulnerability is readily apparent,” the synopsis adds.“But, as the saying goes, ‘no good deed goes unpunished,’ and this casual encounter sparks a suffocating obsession that threatens to wreck both their lives and forces Donny to face his deeply buried trauma.”In a new interview with Variety, Gadd said that he intended to make the Martha character somewhat sympathetic, based on his experiences.“Stalking usually is depicted as someone who is kind of evil, whereas I felt like there was a vulnerable person who genuinely couldn’t stop, who for whatever reason had believed the reality that was inside her head and no matter what couldn’t change from that,” he said.“I mean, it is a mental illness and I wanted to portray that.

Brian Eno has spoken about his “powerful” David Bowie collaboration ‘Get Real’ which he is now reworking as part of a new climate change album project.The record, titled ‘Sounds Right’, has been developed by Eno in conjunction with the Museum for the United Nations, in the lead-up to Earth Day on April 22. Aurora and London Grammar are among the other artists enlisted as part of the project.‘Sounds Right’ also sees Mother Nature becoming recognised as an official artist, with her own profile on major streaming platforms, with tracks posted that include sounds from the natural world, including ocean waves, wind, rainstorms and birdsongs. As the accredited artist, ‘Nature’ will also receive royalties for the tracks as they are played.Bowie and Eno’s track ‘Get Real’ is a reworking of a song they recorded together during the ‘1.

Ultravox, has died aged 71.The death of Chris Cross was announced last night (April 1) by lead vocalist Midge Ure. Cross passed away on March 25; no cause of death was given.Ure wrote: “We worked together, we played together, made music and directed videos together. Pulp‘s Jarvis Cocker has been confirmed as one of the keynote speakers of The Great Escape‘s newly revamped conference.The Brighton festival will be returning from May 15-18 and will play host to a raft of speakers from across the music industry.Cocker will be presenting a talk on May 18 called ‘Biophobia’, a a special climate-themed talk about getting to grips with nature. It will be presented by EarthPercent, the charity founded by Brian Eno to help the music industry support the most prominent organisations tackling the climate emergency.Meanwhile, Darcus Beese OBE will give the conference’s opening keynote conversation on May 15 in which he is set to reflect on his career as the UK’s first black record company CEO and his prestige as an A&R, having been responsible for signing and nurturing artists like Amy Winehouse, Florence and the Machine and U2.Another of the keynote speeches will be delivered by Tom Gray, Chair of the Ivors Academy and Labour Party prospective candidate for Brighton Pavilion, and Yolanda Brown OBE DL, musician, broadcaster and Chair of the BPI.

Brian Eno, Nadine Shah and Maxine Peake will be among the performers at a special benefit event in support of Palestine at London’s Union Chapel on April 18. The show, which is titled Sumud and promises “a fundraising evening of music, spoken word and film for Palestine”, will be hosted by Amos Trust and Palestine Music Expo, and tickets are available here. All proceeds will go to Amos Trust’s emergency appeal for Gaza.

Roxy Music‘s frontman Bryan Ferry has sold 50 per cent of his music catalogue in a deal with Iconic Artist Group.The deal includes a range of assets from Ferry’s music career including his solo work as well as the work from his time with Roxy Music. Iconic Artists Group also acquired half of the singer’s sound recording, publishing, and name, image and likeness rights.

Jarvis Cocker has spoken to NME about debuting his latest project ‘Biophobia’, describing it as “my attempt to get to grips with nature”. He also spoke about more gigs being on the horizon for Pulp.The frontman was speaking before delivering ‘Biophobia’ at GEI – Green Events and Innovations conference – in London on Tuesday (February 27).

In the film, Wright played the titular artist, while Bowie portrayed Basquiat’s mentor, Andy Warhol. Oldman, meanwhile, played another artist, a character loosely based on the film’s director, Julian Schnabel.In a new interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Wright revealed that in a spare moment during the shooting of the film, Bowie decided to test out his new material on his fellow cast members.“I remember one day we were in the hair and makeup trailer — Gary Oldman was in the film as well — we’re sitting there and David walks in,” Wright said.

Lou Reed’s final solo album, ‘Hudson River Wind Meditations’, will be getting its first vinyl release in January. ‘Hudson River Wind Meditations’, originally released in 2007, is a collection of ambient and drone recordings from the late Velvet Underground frontman, and was his last solo studio album.Helmed by Seattle independent label Light In The Attic, in conjunction with the Lou Reed Archive and Reed’s wife, Laurie Anderson, the vinyl release marks the album’s first-ever, and is scheduled to drop on January 12.

At the time of writing, over 14,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed in Israeli attacks since October 7.

Kate Bush has announced new physical reissues of her album back catalogue, including two radical redesigns of ‘Hounds Of Love’.The singer’s record label Fish People has teamed up with fellow record label and atelier, The state51 Conspiracy, to release some innovative new designs of her albums. The records will be available to order from her website from December 1, which has also been freshly updated to mark the occasion.Her classic album ‘Hounds of Love’ (1985) has been reformatted into two separate records.

Peter Gabriel has announced details of his new album ‘i/o’, his first collection of new material in over 20 years.The 12-track album will be released on December 1, available in two stereo mixes on both CD and vinyl. You can pre-order it here.Over the course of 2023, Gabriel has been releasing a new song every time there has been a full moon, and he has played shows throughout the UK, Europe and North America.“After a years-worth of full moon releases, I’m very happy to see all these new songs back together on the good ship i/o and ready for their journey out into the world,” said Gabriel.‘i.o’ has been recorded at Gabriel’s own Real World Studios near Bath.
