Sundance Film Festival regular Brett Haley has been tapped to helm Paramount'sGrease prequel, Summer Loving. The feature is based on a song that comes early on in the classic 1978 musical that starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John as high school teens from opposite worlds.

A little more than a year ago, it was announced that Paramount was beginning work on a new “Grease” prequel film. While there wasn’t much known as far as who would helm the film or who might lead the cast, it was revealed that “Summer Lovin’” would take the story of the “Grease” lead characters’ first meeting and their seasonal romance.

What a wonderful surprise this film is! Rather under the radar, Netflix has released one of the better movies of 2020 so far with All the Bright Places, a tremendously effective and mature adaptation of the Young Adult novel of the same name. YA titles can often pull their punches and leave you lacking, but director Brett Haley, one of the most underrated storytellers in the business, does not fall into that trap.
