The latest episode of Grey's Anatomy finally gave the fans the closure they needed. While the fans already knew that Justin Chambers‘ character Alex Karev will not return to the show, they were still waiting to find out exactly what happened to Alex and the makers have now answered that question with a jaw-dropping twist.

"The truth is: there's really no good way to say goodbye."  Truer words have never been spoken than those of Meredith Grey in last night's episode of Grey's Anatomy, as we learned what became of Alex Karev (Justin Chambers).  Chambers announced his exit in January, and ABC confirmed that the last episode he would appear in was the one that aired in November, where he showed up at Meredith's trial with letters from people in support of her.

We did not see that coming, but maybe we should have.  After weeks of telling us Alex was visiting his mother in Iowa and then finally revealing that he had never been in Iowa at all, this week's episode provided some serious closure for both Alex and another surprise, long-gone character from Grey's Anatomy past.  Basically, Alex was with Izzie (Katherine Heigl).

We’ve known for a while now that Justin Chambers‘ character Alex Karev would not be returning to Grey’s Anatomy, but we only just found out the fate of the character and we’re completely shook.

Justin Chambers’ last onscreen appearance in “Grey’s Anatomy” was back in November 2019, but his longtime character Alex Karev will officially get his sendoff in the March 5 episode.

Grey's Anatomy certainly seems to be having a good time destroying every relationship in its path.
