It wasn’t very well reviewed and disappointed at the box office, but in the universe of Star Wars fanboys, even Solo: A Star Wars story has its adherents (disclosure: I am one of them). So when NME took a tour through Ron Howard’s oeuvre with the director, the mandatory question about a sequel had to be asked.
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away (or, in 2018, before the likes of “The Mandalorian” and “Andor“), Ron Howard‘s “Solo: A Star Wars Story” was a big deal to “Star Wars” fans. The film did alright commercially, taking in $393 million at the box office off a $300 million budget, but critics didn’t care for it.

The late Ray Liotta is seen in one of his final roles in the first preview released for the comedy Cocaine Bear, which showcases a drug-addled bear on a murderous rampage. The action comedy movie, directed by Elizabeth Banks, is based on the true story of a black bear in 1985 who found and consumed a multimillion dollar package of cocaine smugglers air-dropped into a forest in the state of Georgia. While the bear in real life died from an overdose near where officials found torn-up packages that contained the drug, the film takes artistic license with the premise, sending the bear on a bloody spree involving multiple people. The latest: The late Ray Liotta is seen in one of his final roles in the first preview released for the comedy Cocaine Bear, which showcases a drug-addled bear on a murderous rampageThe trailer, underscored to the 1983 song White Lines (Don't Don't Do It) from Grandmaster Flash & Melle Mel, depicts the insanity that ensues when officials and tourists encounter the frenetic bear.Liotta's character, a drug kingpin, dispatches two of his underlings (Alden Ehrenreich and O'Shea Jackson Jr.) to find and recover the missing contraband.
Earlier this week, social media lit up as users excitedly uploaded the poster for the Elizabeth Banks-directed Cocaine Bear, imagining what a movie with that title might be like. They got some idea today when Universal dropped the bonkers first trailer for the film “inspired by the true story of a drug runner’s 1985 plane crash, missing cocaine, and the black bear that ate it.” The movie, billed as a character-driven thriller, seems to have a good bit of fun with the premise.
Universal’s first trailer for “Cocaine Bear” gives the people what they want. The title is pretty self-explanatory, even if one doesn’t know about the true-life story involving a 175-pound American black bear who ingested a duffel bag full of blow after the narcotics were dumped out of an airplane by a drug smuggler trying to lighten a heavy load. It’s a somewhat refreshing example of an old-school high-concept movie, one driven by a strong elevator pitch rather than IP or marquee characters.
