Amazon Studios is getting into business with Critical Role, the company behind Prime Video’s The Legend of Vox Machina animated series, with a multiyear exclusive overall television and first-look film deal.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power started setting records before a frame of it had been released when word came out of New Zealand last year that its eight-episode first season cost a record $465 million to produce (not factoring in tax rebates and start-up costs amortization.)

Under the pact, the duo will develop and produce projects via their Intrepid Pictures company, which will exclusively stream on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is rounding out its Season 2 cast with seven actors added in recurring roles. Sam Hazeldine takes on the role of Orc leader Adar in a recasting in the Prime Video series. He replaces Joseph Mawle, who portrayed the character in Season 1. The recasting decision was made months ago, and Mawle did not participate in any of the worldwide promotional events for the series.

It’s official – Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios, will also oversee MGM, the venerable film and TV studio, which was acquired by Amazon earlier this year for $8.5 billion. Additionally, MGM’s COO Chris Brearton will take on a new role, VP, PVS Corporate Strategy, MGM+ and MGM Alternative Television. Mike Hopkins, SVP, Prime Video and Amazon Studios, just made the announcement internally in a memo (You can red it under the post.)

Danny Kalb, who led the downtown blues scene in New York during the 1960s and 1970s as a guitarist with his band the Blues Project, died Saturday at a nursing home in Brooklyn where he lived. He was 80. His death was confirmed by his brother, Jonathan.

California authorities have arrested two brothers in connection with the kidnappings and murders of four family members in Merced. The Merced County Sheriff's Office on Friday announced the arrest of Alberto Salgado, the brother of suspect Jesus Manuel Salgado, who was taken into police custody earlier this week in critical condition after trying to take his own life. Jesus Manuel Salgado is suspected of kidnapping and murdering 8-month-old Aroohi Dheri; her mother, Jasleen Kaur; her father, Jasdeep Singh; and her uncle, Amandeep Singh.

The suspect who allegedly kidnapped and killed a Merced, California family had once worked for the family's business and had a longstanding feud with them before committing "pure evil", a sheriff said Thursday. The bodies of each of the four family members, including an 8-month-old child, were found in an almond orchard in a remote area of Dos Palos on Wednesday.The family – whose trucking business was located 30 miles south in Merced – had been missing since Monday morning. 8-month-old Aroohi Dher was found with no visible signs of trauma and an autopsy will be preformed, according to Merced County Sheriff Vernon Warnke.

The live-action project, titled “Blade Runner 2099,” was first announced as being in development at the streamer back in February, while Ridley Scott first revealed the show was in the works in November 2021. Exact plot details are being kept under wraps, but the title indicates the show will take place fifty years after the events of “Blade Runner 2049,” the 2017 sequel to the original “Blade Runner.” Silka Luisa serves as showrunner and executive producer, with Ridley Scott also executive producing under his Scott Free Productions banner.

I need to thank you both for listening whenever it helped but mostly I need to thank you for ignoring me at exactly the right times.”
