SYDNEY — American actor Zac Efron confirmed on Monday that he recently fell ill while filming a survival reality TV show in Papua New Guinea.

Zac Efron became seriously ill over the Christmas holiday, and some reports are saying that the situation was “life or death.” The 32-year-old actor was filming his documentary Killing Zac Efron in Papua New Guinea when he began experiencing symptoms due to a “typhoid or similar bacterial infection” according to The Sunday Telegraph.

Zac Efron had a close call while filming his new adventure series for Quibi, eerily titled Killing Zac Efron. During production on the upcoming reality show, which features the actor stranded for three weeks on a remote island with a local guide and minimal gear, Efron was reportedly stricken with a serious infection and had to be airlifted to a hospital for treatment.

Zac, 32, is thought to have been flown to Australia from Papua New Guinea by a medical evacuation crew after battling ‘a form of typhoid or similar bacterial infection.’ According to the Sunday Telegraph, Efron was in a ‘stable’ condition when he admitted to the hospital, believed to be St Andrews War Memorial Hospital where he stayed for seven days.
