A new Netflix documentary premiered yesterday (August 24) about the bizarre life story of McAfee Anti-Virus software creator John McAfee. The feature-length documentary called Running With The Devil: The Wild World of John McAfee shows hours of unseen footage of an increasingly paranoid man on the run.

Anna Marie de la Fuente Chilean industry forum Sanfic Industria bows its 11th edition with the launch of new virtual reality and women producers lab sections. Running Aug 11-19, Sanfic Industria will also include its mainstays: WIP Ibero-American, Santiago Lab: Fiction and Documentary, Sanfic-Mórbido Lab, Series Lab, Sanfic Net and Sanfic Series.“By introducing a virtual reality section, we’re betting on new narrative formats,” said Sanfic Industria founder-director Gabriela Sandoval of the Sanfic XR showcase, which will be open to the public at the forum’s official headquarters, Matucana 100.“Making these films accessible to everyone creates a nexus between the public and the films’ creators,” she pointed out.

 In line with the massive new talent focus of many of Locarno’s industry programs –  this year’s Germany First Look with five feature debuts, the Match Me! emerging producer springboard – Open Doors will focus on Latin America’s most under-represented territories and the Caribbean, where production companies have sprung up after national cinema lift-off in more major countries in the region.  Bolivia’s Empatía Cinema, for example, was founded in 2007, but most key companies at Locarno launched significantly later: YPR Films in 2010, La Linterna Films in 2011, Paraguay’s Asociación Cultural Arraigo in 2014, Haiti’s Muska Films in 2015 and Boton Films in 2019.Six of the eight titles at Open Doors Projects Hub are debuts.Producing out of smaller territories in Latin America and the Caribbean is a tall order. Some countries – El Salvador, Haiti – have no production funds nor film schools to drive development.

Netflix have announced they will charge for password sharing in an additional five countries, as the streaming giant continues to crackdown on the practice.Today (July 22), news broke that Netflix have asked customers in five more countries – Argentina, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and the Dominican Republic – to pay additional fees if they are sharing their password with viewers outside of their household. The additional fees vary between countries but users can expect to pay no more than an additional US$2.99.According to IGN, the extra cost won’t affect the use of the streaming service from mobile devices.

That will add the ability for anyone in each additional home to stream Netflix on any device, at a price lower than a full standalone membership.That comes after the streamer in March rolled out an “add extra member” feature in Chile, Costa Rica and Peru, which lets customers pay a monthly fee to let individuals outside their households access Netflix.

John Hopewell Chief International CorrespondentHaving focused since 2016 on emerging film talent in lesser-known parts of South and South East Asia, Open Doors, the Locarno Festival’s flagship co-production forum and talent incubator, is turning its focus to Latin America and the Caribbean. Of the 24 directors featured at this year’s edition, 15 identify as female or gender non conforming, led by Ecaudor’s Ana Cristina Barragán whose 2016 debut “Alba” won nods at Rotterdam and  San Sebastián and Yanillys Pérez whose documentary “Jeffrey” scooped a Discovery Awards at the Toronto Festival. Both have new projects at the Open Doors Co-Production Hub, as does Yashira Jordán with “Diamond,” a coming of age tale about a Quechua trap artist last glimpsed at Málaga this year.  Men directors take in Michael Labarca a winner at Cannes’ Cinéfondation film school shorts competition in 2016, and Guatemala’s Mauricio Escobar whose “Los Invisibles” is a social realist tale wrapped around the phenomenon of domestic migration in Guatemala. It is set up at La Danta, whose partners include Cannes 2019 Camera d’Or winner César Díaz (“Our Mothers”).Also selected for Open Doors’ Co-Production Hub, a platform for feature-length projects looking for international collaboration, is Guaraní language “Kokue,” the fiction feature debut of Paraguay’s Miguel Aguëro, based on his memories of growing up in the Paraguayan countryside.

Anna Marie de la Fuente Panama’s award-winning Hypatia Films and Guatemala’s Jayro Bustamante, whose most recent film, “La Llorona,” made the Oscar international film shortlist, is partnering with Jonathan Keasey of Mind Riot Entertainment to make WWII drama “Down Wind.”The film marks a rare collaboration between two major Central American filmmakers and an American writer-producer. Bustamante will direct based on a screenplay by Keasey, who has also boarded as a producer.The drama’s lead production company, Hypatia Films, run by Pituka Ortega Heilbron and Marcela Heilbron, is an associate producer on Claire Denis’ Cannes competition contender “The Stars at Noon,” which was filmed in Panama and on which Hypatia provided production services.

Rob Zombie has launched a new organic coffee called ‘Dragula Fuel’ – a nod to the name of his debut single.He’s teamed up with Dead Sled Coffee again for the new product, which is selling at $22 (£16.85) a bag.His last coffee made with the brand, ‘Hillbilly Brew’ “proved so popular” according to makers that “another flavour was in order.”A description of the product reads: “The Officially Licensed Rob Zombie Dragula Fuel is a proprietary USDA Organic blend of coffee beans from Uganda and Guatemala. The Uganda coffee beans are from the sub-region of Uganda and are grown at an elevation of 1,600 meters.“The Guatemalan beans are from the Huehuetenango growing region and are grown at an elevation of 1,220 – 1,829 meters.

Cancer Bats posted a new track called ‘Pressure Mind’ on Friday, the third track to be released from their upcoming seventh studio album ‘Psychic Jailbreak’, which will be released on 15 Apr.On it, the band’s Liam Cormier says: “Sometimes you just need a release with everything going on in the world, this song is our punk rock way of blowing off some steam.
