Paul Mescal and Colin Farrell fans have claimed the actors was “robbed” after losing out to Elvis star Austin Butler for the Leading Actor Award at the 2023 BAFTAs.The 76th BAFTAs took place earlier tonight (February 19) at London’s Royal Festival Hall in the Southbank Centre in a ceremony hosted by Richard E. The National Society of Film Critics has named Tár as Best Picture in the group’s 57th annual vote Saturday. The results were announced on Twitter.

BAFTA has unveiled the longlists across all categories for its 2023 Film Awards, and Martin McDonagh’s tragicomedy The Banshees Of Inisherin and Netflix’s All Quiet on the Western Front lead. Scroll down for the lists in full.

Martin McDonagh’s tragicomedy The Banshees Of Inisherin leads this year’s London Film Critics Circle nominations with nine nods, followed by Charlotte Wells’s acclaimed debut Aftersun, which nabbed eight nominations.

The longest voting awards committee is underway with the New York Film Critics Circle already naming this AM A24’s Marcel the Shell With Shoes On Best Animated film and A24/Mubi’s Aftersun from Charlotte Wells as Best First Film. In previous years, it can take five hours before the New York Film Critics Circle names Best Picture. We’ll be here for the long haul.

This year has been surprisingly brutal for cinema’s top-tier directors, and even now, when the awards season really should have settled on its frontrunners, there ‘s still an unusual lack of consensus about the big guns. At times like this, it’s worth stepping back to see where critical opinion is united, and this is where you’d find Charlotte Wells’s Aftersun, the mesmerizing debut from a 35-year-old Scot that has graced almost every major international film festival in the six months since it debuted in in Critics Week in Cannes. To find a recent comparison, you’d have to look back to Barry Jenkins’ stealth hit Moonlight back in 2016, and it’s perhaps worth noting that Jenkins is one of the producers here.
