Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss track ‘Euphoria’ features sample of reversed Richard Pryor line from ‘The Wiz’

Kendrick Lamar has included a sample of a reversed Richard Pryor line from ‘The Wiz’ on his new Drake diss track ‘Euphoria‘.The six-minute-long diss track sees Lamar call the ‘Hotline Bling’ a “scam artist”, “master manipulator” and question his abilities as a father. It has been revealed that the jumbled audio in the intro of the song samples dialogue from the 1978 film The Wiz.Following its release yesterday (April 30), fans clipped the short sample and played the line backwards to find the first line: “eurt si em tuoba yas yeht gnihtyrevE” happens to be a line from the iconic film in which Richard Pryor – who portrayed The Wiz – says: “Everything they say about me is true.”the reversed audio at the beginning of euphoria played backwards pic.twitter.com/9aNxxTxs57— Dissect Podcast (@dissectpodcast) April 30, 2024Pryor’s line in the film is taken from a scene in which his character is exposed as Herman Smith, a washed-up politician from Atlantic City.

Why does Martha misspell messages in ‘Baby Reindeer’?

Netflix’s runaway hit series Baby Reindeer has been one of the most talked-about shows of 2024, but why are Martha’s email messages in the show spelt so poorly?Created by and starring Richard Gadd, the show brings his real-life experience of being stalked and sexually abused to screens, having previously told the story on stage in his acclaimed one-man show.Gadd plays a fictionalised version of himself named Donny who is obsessively stalked by a woman named Martha (Jessica Gunning) after he befriends her in a pub.As their unusual relationship begins to develop, we see some of the litany of emails sent from Martha to Donny printed on the screen, invariably with very poor spelling.Reflecting the real-life circumstances of the events in the show, the email correspondences we see on screen from Martha are taken verbatim from Gadd’s actual stalker. In total, the woman sent Gadd a total of 41,041 emails, over 350 hours of voicemail messages, 106 pages of letters and many social media messages. It is not known exactly why the real Martha’s messages were composed with such poor spelling and grammar, although it could be said that it reflects her psychological state at the time.Others have speculated that the messages could be the result of dyslexia or a series of manic episodes.

Moby on apologising for calling Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan a “deadbeat” who “owes him a remix”

Moby has apologised to Smashing Pumpkins‘ Billy Corgan for calling him a “deadbeat” who “owes him a remix”.Back in 1997, the ‘Porcelain’ artist referred to the ‘1979’ singer as a “deadbeat” and told MTV News that Corgan owed him a remix, while on Corgan’s home turf at the Q101 Jamboree outside Chicago.“A lot of times when I do remixes, rather than get the artist to pay me, I work on a barter system,” Moby told the outlet. “Right now my debtors, people who owe me, are Soundgarden and the Smashing Pumpkins, I did remixes for them and they didn’t pay me anything for them.”He continued: “We did it with the understanding that they were supposed to do a remix for me, but unfortunately…with the Smashing Pumpkins I did a year and a half ago, and every time I see Billy I ask him where my remix is, but I can understand he’s kind of busy.”Now, Moby has opened up about his statement in a new interview with Stereogum.

‘Challengers’ ending explained: what happens between Art and Patrick?

standout soundtrack, Challengers is one of the best films of 2024.Directed by Luca Guadagnino, the spicy sports drama follows professional tennis champion Art Donaldson (Mike Faist) who is plotting a career comeback with the help of his wife Tashi Duncan (Zendaya), a former tennis rising star who was forced to retire due to an injury. At a tournament, however, Art is matched against Patrick Zweig (Josh O’Connor), who is his former best friend and his wife’s ex lover.Along with starring in the film, Zendaya also serves as a producer alongside Guadagnino, Rachel O’Connor and Amy Pascal. The entirety of Challengers is told in a nonlinear fashion, as the love triangle between Art Donaldson, Tashi Duncan and Patrick Zweig is unraveled through flashbacks in the build-up to the climactic tennis match in the present.A day prior to the match between Art and Patrick, Tashi tells her husband Art that if he loses the match, she will leave him – in what’s pitched as a motivator to spur him to win in order to get his tennis career back on track. Later on, Tashi meets with Patrick to ask him to throw the match in Art’s favour, and while he hesitantly agrees, the pair end up briefly rekindling their past romance and have sex in the back of a car.At the match in the present, just as Patrick looks to throw the match by losing points with foul serves, he communicates to Art that he had sex with his wife the night prior by placing his tennis ball against the centre of his racket before his serve – something he did years prior when he first started dating Tashi.

Taylor Swift and Record Store Day see highest weekly vinyl sales in 30 years

Record Store Day and Taylor Swift. The report was shared by digital entertainment and retail association ERA, which confirmed that one week last month saw the sales of vinyl records reach a new high in recent years. It was the week that Record Store Day (April 20) took place that the figures marked the highest in 30 years, as countless music lovers flocked to both physical and online stores to purchase physical copies of their favourite releases. As well as seeing lots of exclusive releases from musicians, Record Store Day also happened to take place one day after pop icon Taylor Swift shared her latest album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, which immediately topped the charts, took over social media and shifted over 2.6million copies in the US alone. Thanks to both, data from the Official Charts Company has shown that the week saw 269,134 vinyl albums and 37,656 vinyl singles sold – making for a total of 306,791 units. The figure is the highest out of any week on record since week five in 1994, when the current statistics began.‘The Tortured Poets Department’ alone accounted for just shy of a quarter of the week’s total vinyl album sales (24.7 per cent), and many of these were sold at independent shops as part of Record Store Day.Similarly, Music Week reported that sales of vinyl albums exclusive to independent record shops as part of Record Store Day 2024 made up approximately 37.2 per cent of the vinyl albums market.“Indie record shops were first to realise that the growth of streaming would paradoxically provide an opportunity for the most physical of physical formats, and vinyl has sat at the heart of Record Store Day’s celebration of indie record shop culture since 2008,” Kim Bayley, CEO of ERA, said in a statement
