Joe Otterson TV Reporter The “One Piece” live-action series at Netflix is bringing in Joe Tracz to serve as its new co-showrunner for Season 2. Tracz will helm the popular series based on the Eiichiro Oda manga of the same name alongside Season 1 co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer Matt Owens. Steven Maeda, who developed the series with Owens and was co-showrunner on Season 1, will step down but continue to serve as an executive producer on the series.

Thania Garcia Michael Cuscuna, a three-time Grammy winning jazz producer and the co-founder of Mosaic Records, has died. He was 75. His death was confirmed on Monday by the record label Blue Note, for whom he produced reissues and studio sessions.

Joe Otterson TV Reporter Malin Åkerman has been cast in a leading role of the Starz series adaptation of the May Cobb novel “The Hunting Wives,” Variety has learned. Åkerman will appear in the role of Margo Banks. The series was ordered at the premium cabler back in October 2023.

Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw are the writers and executive producers, with Nick Kroll executive producing under his first-look deal with FX Productions. Karey Dornetto will also executive produce along with Alicia Van Couvering, president of Kroll’s Good at Business production banner, and Jonathan Krisel, with Krisel also directing.

BreAnna Bell Murray Bartlett, Annie Murphy, and “The Good Fight” alum Christine Baranski have signed on to star in Season 2 of Hulu‘s “Nine Perfect Strangers” as series regulars along with Dolly De Leon, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, King Princess, Aras Aydin and Lucas Englander. Bartlett (“The Last of Us,” “The White Lotus”) is set to portray Brian; Murphy and Baranski will take on the roles of Imogen and Victoria, respectively. Variety previously reported on Bartlett being in talks to star in June.

Author William Collier says that in 2007, he sent his daughter, who was working at Mosaic Media division Jimmy Miller Entertainment, an email with the text of his novel “Stanley’s Comet,” for the company to consider as material. Collier alleges that his novel had numerous themes and plot points in common with “Don’t Look Up,” which McKay is said to have written in 2019.

Plot and character details are being kept under tight wraps on the project, which was first announced in December 2020. The only detail that has been confirmed is that the show will take place on Earth in the not-too-distant future. The role brings Chandler back to FX, as she previously made her network television debut in the cabler’s 2022 limited series “Pistol” from Danny Boyle, which told the story of the legendary band The Sex Pistols. Chandler starred in the series as Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders. Chandler’s other credits include the film “Don’t Worry Darling” and the Facebook Watch series “SKAM Austin.” She is also set to appear in the upcoming Apple series “Sugar” opposite Colin Farrell.
