The tattoo is of a spade inside what appears to be an iron cross symbol – a symbol that Hetfield has incorporated on his guitars in the past. The singer also a tattoo of an iron cross on his elbow.However, the tattoo isn’t a regular tribute to Lemmy, it also contains the remains of Kilmister himself, according to Hetfield.

Metallica have announced the official winners of their first ever ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls’ marching band competition.The band launched the contest last April, with over 450 US colleges and high schools applying to enter.Bands were challenges to create “their most exciting, unique and impressive performances of some of the band’s most beloved songs”, with the band supplying them with musical charts of songs including ‘Enter Sandman’, ‘Master of Puppets’, ‘Fade to Black’ and others.The band chose the winners themselves in a number of categories, based on the school age groups. Metallica‘s Kirk Hammett has revealed that the band snuck the Batman theme song into the riff of one of their tracks.The song ‘Shadow Follows’ which appears on Metallica’s 11th album ’72 Seasons’ features a riff that happens about four minutes and 20 seconds in, which refers to the theme of the 1960s Batman TV show. The riff was nicknamed “The Batman Riff” during the production of the track.In an interview with Total Guitar, in which Hammett was asked about the superhero reference, the guitarist said: “That’s really funny, because we called that riff ‘The Batman Riff’, and I know exactly what you are talking about.”Fans had been speculating about the similarities between the riff and the signature Batman sound online, with many taking to Reddit to see if anyone heard the similarities.

Rush has revealed that he will be hosting a new docu-series about bassists – featuring musicians from Nirvana, Metallica and more.Titled Geddy Lee Asks: Are Bass Players Human Too?, the documentary series will be arriving on Paramount+ later this year, and see the prog-rock icon catch up with various famous faces from across the rock and metal world.It will be structured as a four-part series, the show is set to unpick the world of bass players and features the Rush legend engaging in random activities with fellow bassists including Krist Novoselic of Nirvana and Robert Trujillo of Metallica.Other famous faces include former Hole and Smashing Pumpkins bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur, as well as rock legend and Primus frontman Les Claypool. It will arrive on the streaming platform on December 5.“I’m trying to show the world that a bass player can do many things,” Lee says in the trailer.

Metallica‘s Robert Trujillo has revealed he once hid from a Manson family shootout in a local army surplus store.In a recent appearance on The Offspring‘s podcast Time To Relax, the Metallica bassist said he witnessed the holdout as his grandmother lived in Hawthorne, Los Angeles. The holdout occurred on August 21, 1971, when Trujillo was six years old.“I’m staying at my grandma’s house,” Trujillo began. “The gun shop, the army surplus shop around the corner on Hawthorne Boulevard, was robbed.
