Charna Flam The ReelAbilities Film Festival returns for its 15th year, as the largest film festival in the U.S. dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation for the lives, stories, and artistic expressions of people with disabilities. The festival announced Academy Award winner Troy Kotsur as the 2023 Spotlight Award recipient, as well as listed the festival’s lineup, which includes 10 features and 24 shorts, from nine countries. Features include “Unidentified Objects,” “Being Michelle,” “Jasmine Is a Star,” “No Ordinary Campaign,” “Pushing Boundaries,” “The Quiet Epidemic,” “Shadow,” “Straighten Up and Fly Right,” “Upside Down” and “Okay! On Oscars night, through a combination of memorable moments and inclusive components of the ceremony, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences demonstrated its growing commitment to embracing inclusion and accessibility for all. For the second time, a free ASL livestream was available on the Academy’s YouTube channel. The livestream was updated this year to enhance accessibility for viewers. On the red carpet, a team of ASL interpreters helped participants more effectively engage with fans and viewers at home, with members of the media receiving guidelines on how to make their pre-show coverage more accessible. Meanwhile, stage accessibility included not only ramp access but a stage wheelchair lift for the first time as well.

Carey Mulligan was incorrectly named the Best Supporting Actress winner at the EE BAFTA Film Awards 2023, but the star was said to have laughed off the blunder. Deaf actor Troy Kotsur was delivering the announcement by sign language before a miscommunication resulted in Carey's name being called for her role as Meghan Twohey in She Said.

The EE BAFTAs took place on Sunday evening and, as usual, the stars turned up in their droves as they donned their fanciest frocks to celebrate at the London's Royal Festival Hall.Two stars that attended the BAFTA festivities, Carey Mulligan and Daisy Lowe, showed off their baby bumps in their stunning outfits at the bash. Carey proudly displayed her bump on the red carpet at the official BAFTA awards, whilst Daisy attended the Tiffany & Co.

Yossman In an awkward mix-up, Carey Mulligan’s name was accidentally read out as the winner for Best Supporting Actress instead of the actual winner, Kerry Condon, at the BAFTA Awards on Sunday evening. The error happened as “CODA” actor Troy Kotsur, who won Best Supporting Actor at last year’s ceremony, introduced the nominees alongside a sign language interpreter. As clips of the nominees’ performances were shown, the interpreter read out Mulligan’s name to cheers and whoops. After a couple of seconds he quickly said: “Kerry Condon…Kerry Condon.” It’s unclear whether the mistake was Kotsur’s or his interpreter’s. Condon, who was nominated for her performance in “The Banshees Of Inisherin,” swiftly took to the stage to accept her award. “Oh my God, thanks a million, really. This means so much to me,” she told the audience.

After her win was announced, Kerry said: “Thank you Martin [McDonagh] for this part, and thank you for all the parts you gave me throughout my career. You make me so proud to be an Irish woman.” She also thanked the “amazing cast” and her family as well as her horses and dogs.
