Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic The Academy of Country Music Awards have named their co-hosts for the show’s annual webcast May 11, bringing in Garth Brooks for his first-ever role hosting any awards show — joining repeat ACMs host Dolly Parton, who did it as part of a trio last year and as a solo host back in 2000. The 58th annual edition of the show will be seen on Amazon Prime Video exclusively for the second consecutive year. The ACM Awards left broadcast television behind last year after having aired on CBS from 1998 through 2021, and on ABC and NBC through the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s. “While I’ve had the pleasure of spending time with (Brooks) throughout the years,” Parton said in a statement, “I can’t believe we’ve never had the chance to work together.” Parton additionally said that she will be premiering the debut single from her upcoming “rock” album on the show, fulfilling a vow she made to produce a genre-specific record when she was elected into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In its third tracking week, the set collected 256 million streams and tallied 12,500 copies sold. Following its March 3 debut, “One Thing” entered the charts at No. 1 logging 501,000 units — becoming Spotify’s most-streamed country album in a single day by a male artist — then notched 259,000 in its second week. By comparison, the record joins only Taylor Swift’s “Midnights” in garnering over 200,000 units in each of their first three weeks across the last year.

Nominations for the 2023 CMT Music Awards are in!

Country music singer-songwriter Lainey Wilson leads this year’s roster of CMT Music Awards nominations with a total of four nominations, including Video of the Year, Female Video of the Year, Collaborative Video of the Year and CMT Performance of the Year.

CMT Music Awards will have plenty of familiar faces — and a whole lot of new ones. Lainey Wilson leads the charge with four noms, including Performance of the Year and Female Video of the Year. Recorded music’s revenues from streaming and subscriptions were up around 19% to over $5.6 billion, while digital revenues form publishing division were up a whopping 50% to $1.05 billion. Top sellers for the year included Taylor Swift, BTS, the “Encanto” sountrack, Olivia Rodrigo, Morgan Wallen and the Beatles, while top sellers for the fourth quarter were Swift, the Beatles, Drake, Seventeen and Lil Baby.

This week the R&B set joins an exclusive list of albums that have notched at least 10 weeks atop the list throughout the last decade, including Bad Bunny’s “Un Verano Sin Ti” (13 nonconsecutive weeks in 2022). The last album by a woman to have achieved 10 weeks at No. 1 was Adele’s “25” (2015), and before that, Taylor Swift’s “1989” achieved the mark with 11 weeks (2014). Since its December debut, “SOS” has been a steady streaming giant. In its first week on the charts, “SOS” posted 405 million on-demand streams — the fifth-largest streaming week of 2022 and the second-largest streaming week ever for an album by a female artist (Swift’s “Midnights” tallied 549.26 million). This week, the record keeps its hold on the summit by earning the equivalent of 87,000 album units in the U.S. and 118 million streams, according to data by Luminate via Billboard.

Morgan Wallen’s ex, KT Smith, was in a nasty car crash in Nashville on Wednesday and revealed she suffered bad facial injuries as a result. Smith shared images of the wrecked car on her Instagram stories, writing, "thankful to be alive," and tagged two friends, Caden McGuire and Gabriella Payant.  On another slide, she thanked "sweet friends/family" for their support and noted a doctor walked by and said that "'they shouldn’t be alive, and he definitely shouldn’t be alive.’" The "he" appears to refer to McGuire, whom Smith says came into the room and prayed with her while still being "not even completely stitched up," implying that he and Payant were in the car with Smith.  Smith later shared close-ups of her severely bruised and swollen face, writing "hahaha demogorgan," making light of the injury.

This week, the 23-song set tops the Billboard 200 for the ninth week — the highest tally for a female-led album in almost seven years. The last two albums by women to achieve nine or more weeks at the summit in the last decade were Adele’s “25,” which boasted 10 nonconsecutive weeks in 2015-16, and before that, Taylor Swift’s “1989” dominated for 11 weeks in 2014-15. In the week ending Feb. 16, SZA’s sophomore release earned 93,000 units in the U.S. and 127 million streams according to data by Luminate. Following Rihanna’s highly-anticpated return to the stage for the Super Bowl halftime set on Feb. 12, the star’s 2016 release “Anti” rebounded to No. 8 on the chart (from its prevous No. 50 position) with 36,000 album units sold. On Spotify, her streams spiked more than 640% across the U.S, while streams for the set’s opening track, “Bitch Better Have My Money,” surged by over 2,600%.

After dipping out of the slot for a week, the 23-song set returns to top the Billboard 200 with the equivalent of 100,000 units sold in the U.S. With another week at No. 1, “SOS” has matched the chart run of Taylor Swift’s “Folklore” from 2020 (The album was in and out of the top slot for 13 weeks, but ultimately notched eight weeks at the summit). In the last few years, the albums with the most weeks at the top include Disney’s “Encanto” soundtrack (nine), Morgan Wallen’s “Dangerous: The Double Album” (10), and Bad Bunny’s “Un Verano Sin Ti” (13).

The non-televised award winners for tonight’s American Music Awards were announced this morning via Twitter audio livestream and Discord. Highlights include three AMA wins for Taylor Swift and two each for Bad Bunny, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar and Morgan Wallen.

The list of nominees for the 2023 Grammy Awards is not entirely shocking, and many of the tunes, albums, and artists that were expected to lead the ceremony ended up with most of the nominations.While many predictions ended up being largely correct, there were a few surprises, and thankfully only a handful of snubs.Beyoncé earned the most nominations this time around, with nine. She’s up for all three of the top categories she’s eligible for, and she’s already a frontrunner for all of the dance/electronic and R&B fields as well.

Thania Garcia The top of the U.S. album and singles charts remain unchanged this week, with Bad Bunny’s “Un Verano Sin Ti” keeping at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for a 14th non-consecutive week and Steve Lacy’s “Bad Habit” reigning at No. 1 on the Hot 100 for a third week in a row. “Un Verano” now ties Drake’s “Views” (2016) and Disney’s “Frozen” soundtrack (2014) for the most weeks at the summit in the past decade. Adele’s “21” scored a total of 24 weeks at No. 1 back in 2011 and 2012. “Un Verano” remains at the top with the equivalent of 84,000 units sold in the United States, according to Luminate via Billboard. Lacy’s “Bad Habit,” fueled largely by its command on streaming services and TikTok, holds its No. 1 streak on the singles chart with 42.3 million radio airplay audience impressions (up by 4% from last week) and 20.1 million streams.

HARDY, country star and songwriter for some of the biggest names in country music like Morgan Wallen and Blake Shelton has announced the release of his upcoming album "the mockingbird & THE CROW" and a 2023 tour.  "the mockingbird & THE CROW" is an album that mixes up genres with both country and rock music.The new album comes after HARDY's 2020 album "A Rock."  The album will release on January 20, 2023.Three of the songs off the new album, the five-minute title track "the mockingbird & THE CROW," TRUCK BED" and "here lies country music" have already been released. HARDY announced the release of his new album "the mockingbird & THE CROW" and followed up the news with a 2023 tour announcement.  (Terry Wyatt) The album will also include "Wait In The Truck," a duet previously released featuring Lainey Wilson and HARDY's singles "Jack" and "Sold Out." "the mockingbird & THE CROW" will also include a Wallen collaboration with the song "Red."  A day after announcing the new album, HARDY kept the news coming with his 2023 tour with Jameson Rodgers and Blame My Youth.  HARDY's "the mockingbird & THE CROW" tour will kick off in February 2023 in Indianapolis, Indiana and wrap up in April in Irving, Texas.  The album and tour announcement comes shortly after HARDY was in a tour bus accident that left the four on the bus with significant injuries.  The new HARDY album includes the song, "Red" featuring Morgan Wallen.
