The 2022 BET Awards aired last night, and as usual, the show was filled with great performances from artists both established and rising. From pop to Afrobeats to R&B, the evening had variety: Lizzo celebrated her hit "About Damn Time" with a solid gold, disco-themed performance appropriate for the throwback single, Doechii hypnotized with "Persuasive" and "Crazy," and Fireboy DML's "Peru" and "Playboy" made a strong case for his continued stateside breakthrough.

The 22nd annual aired Sunday night, with Taraji P. Henson returning as host for “culture’s biggest night.” Presented live from the Microsoft Theater, the star-studded event featured a roster of fresh and familiar talent, including electric performances by Lizzo, Jack Harlow, Lil Wayne, Roddy Ricch and Chance the Rapper.

From there, Lizzo herself appeared, dressed in a gold, disco-ball-like outfit.“You know what time it is,” she said, before launching into a flute solo, and a captivating, uplifting rendition of the viral hit, including moves from its accompanying TikTok dance.“It’s about damn time we have fun,” she added towards the latter end of the song.
