Zack Sharf In a new interview with Elle magazine, Zoë Kravitz doubled down on her criticisms of Hulu over the cancellation of “High Fidelity.” Kravitz starred in, executive produced and co-wrote an episode of “High Fidelity,” a comedy-drama series based on Nick Hornby’s 1995 novel and the 2000 Stephen Frears-directed film of the same name. Hulu canceled the show in August 2020 after just one season.“They didn’t realize what that show was and what it could do,” Kravitz told Elle magazine. “The amount of letters, DMs, people on the street and women that look like us — like, that love for the show, it meant something to people.
While the adult drama has largely migrated to television, there is one sub-genre that has received a new lease of life on late thanks to a trifecta of success: the rock biopic, which, in very recent years, has earned Best Picture Oscar nominations and wins, acclaim, and more importantly, actual box-office returns. While there has still been a few recent misses that haven’t tapped into any of those achievements (Aretha Franklin, “Respect”), with the success of the Academy-Award-nominated Queen biopic (“Bohemian Rhapsody”) and, to a lesser extent, the Elton John one (“Rocketman”), studios continue forging ahead, confidently believing they can reach those same heights.
Bob Marley biopic. It was first announced back in 2018 that a biopic, produced by Ziggy Marley, was in the works, before Reinaldo Marcus Green, director of Oscar-nominated tennis drama King Richard, was revealed to be attached to the film last year.Ben-Adir, who most recently portrayed activist Malcolm X in One Night in Miami, will portray Marley in the as-yet-untitled film by Paramount Pictures.Speaking to Collider last year, director Green revealed that the film will focus on the making of Marley’s classic album ‘Exodus’ with The Wailers, which he recorded after moving to London following an unsuccessful assassination attempt in Jamaica.Of the Marley family’s input on the film, Green added: “Ziggy Marley is, right, my point of contact for the film, and producer on the project. So we’re full steam ahead.
Bob Marley’s story is shaping up for the big screen.
EXCLUSIVE: Following a global search that took almost a year before making a decision, Paramount Pictures looks to have found the person to play its Reggae legend for its upcoming untitled Bob Marley biopic. Sources tell Deadline, Kingsley Ben-Adir has been tapped to play Reggae singer and musical icon Bob Marley in the biopic with King RIchard helmer Reinaldo Marcus Green directing.
