The first American tour by the group, collectively known as the Smile — and not to be confused with Greenwood and Yorke’s other group, Radiohead — has been set for late fall.The trio’s shows in the U.S. will all take place in mid-sized theaters, beginning Nov.

Julian Casablancas has called The Smile’s set at this year’s Primavera Sound the “best show I’ve seen in years”.Radiohead and The Strokes were both performing last night (June 10) as part of the Barcelona festival’s second weekend.Casablancas shared a short video of The Smile – comprised of Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood, and Sons Of Kemet’s Tom Skinner – playing on his Instagram page. “Had my fucking mind blown yesterday, best show i’ve seen in YEARS ……The Smile (Thom Yorke / Johnny Greenwood) – shiiiiiiit that was good,” he captioned the post.“Like modern phillip glass with best of Radiohead or something… idk,” he continued.

Kelly Clarkson dived deep into Radiohead‘s catalogue for her latest Kellyoke cover: the ‘OK Computer’ cut ‘Exit Music (For A Film)’.Clarkson’s customary opening for The Kelly Clarkson Show has seen her previously cover Radiohead’s ‘Karma Police’, but for this edition of Kellyoke she picked a lesser-known ‘OK Computer’ track that was never released as a single.Clarkson’s classic rock take take demonstrates her vocal power – watch her cover Radiohead’s ‘Exit Music (For A Film)’ below.Clarkson is also reportedly working on a “haunting” new version of the 1995 single ‘9 To 5’ with Dolly Parton. It’s built around haunting instrumentals, such as piano, strings and brass, and the ghostly refrain “like a newborn child“.The single arrived alongside an accompanying music video with equally eerie graphics, courtesy of animator Sabrina Nichols and artist Stanley Donwood.

Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood have revealed that they once dissected Kraftwerk‘s 1981 album ‘Computer World’ in front of the band.The duo, who recently formed side project The Smile with Sons Of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner, admitted they were big fans of the electro pioneers on Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes’ comedy podcast SmartLess.The pair admitted studying the album in detail and once sitting Kraftwerk down during a Radiohead tour in South America and dissecting the record over dinner.“We literally study ‘Computer World’ in terms of playing it to each other and discussing what is going on and why, it’s so good,” Greenwood said of the record.“We can pretty much list what every instrument was and how they did it [on that record],” said Yorke before he added: “They came on tour with us once to South America and we had a very long prolonged dinner with them where we basically dissected the whole record and asked which instrument and what was used on every single piece of that [record]. It was the ultimate geek out.”During the podcast, Yorke also discussed how Stanley Kubrick and Ennio Morricone influenced Radiohead’s landmark album ‘OK Computer’.“The Shining was a really massive one [influence],” Yorke said.

The track began its life as a Radiohead song, but was never released.The Smile’s latest single follows on from the group’s two previously released songs, ‘The Smoke‘ and ‘You’ll Never Work In Television Again‘.The video for the new track, which you can watch below, was shot in 16mm black and white by BAFTA-winning writer and director Mark Jenkin in the depths of the disused Rosevale Tin Mine in Cornwall UK.

Jonny Greenwood accepted Paul Thomas Anderson’s award for Best Original Screenplay at the 75th BAFTAs last night – check out the video below.Anderson won the gong for his latest film Licorice Pizza, which stars Haim as Alana Krane in her debut acting role opposite Cooper Hoffman (Gary Valentine). Greenwood composed the score for the movie and contributed a new song to its official soundtrack.Taking to the stage with Haim in Anderson’s place, the Radiohead guitarist said: “Paul is gonna be very excited to win this – not least because it means I’ve been forced to come and give a very awkward and inarticulate speech on his behalf, which he will find very funny.“Paul is an amazing director and an amazing screenwriter, and he even films lots of his films.

Radiohead side-project The Smile have shared a mysterious new clip.The short video shows a slab of the band’s name being pressed on a Heidelberg Platen Press which was first introduced in the early 1900s for the printing press.It is unclear whether the clip, which you can watch below, is referring to the pressing of a forthcoming album by the band.The equipment in the clip could also be a reference to Peaky Blinders, which is also set in the 1900s.

Wilson Chapman editorJonny Greenwood’s Oscar-nominated score for “The Power of the Dog” will receive a special live-to-screen performance March 10 with Wordless Music Orchestra at the helm. The performance will take place at the Theatre at Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.“Over the last 15 years, Jonny Greenwood’s music for film has become as influential and unmistakable as his work with Radiohead,” Wordless Music Orchestra founder Ronen Givony said in a statement. The orchestra is a house band specializing in combining classical music with various disparate genres such as electronic and rock music.

Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Eagles and more have donated items to a new online charity auction.The ‘Igniting The Change’ auction is being operated through eBay and is raising money for the LA-based Watts Community Core non-profit, which supports youth and families living in the Nickerson Gardens Housing Project and its surrounding neighbourhood.Radiohead have donated a vinyl and CD box set of their 2007 album ‘In Rainbows’ which has been signed by the whole band, while Red Hot Chili Peppers have given a signed Fender Stratocaster guitar. Bassist Flea has also contributed a customised Fender Jazz bass with his own hand-drawn illustrations.An acoustic guitar signed by The Eagles and used at the 1999 Millennium Concert at Staples Concert is also up for grabs, alongside items from Tony Hawk, Steve Vai, Quincy Jones, George Clinton, Cypress Hill and more.

Radiohead spin-off The Smile have performed their first trio of gigs and fans have been reacting to the performance.The group, made up of Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood and Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner, performed three gigs at Magazine, London at 8pm last night (January 29) and 1am and 8am this morning (January30).Each of the shows were live streamed to audiences around the world so fans across different time zones could enjoy the performance.Highlights of the gigs according to fans on social media included Greenwood playing both a harp and piano simultaneously, a new version of ‘Skating On The Surface’ and a rendition of new single ‘The Smoke’. Fans also reacted to Peaky Blinders star Cilian Murphy reading a pre-recorded rendition of William Blake’s ‘The Smile’ at the start of the show.The group also played several new songs in addition to ones they premiered at the Glastonbury live-stream last year.

Radiohead side project The Smile have confirmed details of a ticket ballot for fans from around the world for their upcoming London shows at Magazine.The group – comprising Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood, plus Sons Of Kemet’s Tom Skinner – announced the three live shows earlier this month (January 5), due to take place across January 29 and January 30.The trio said in a press release: “We have been overwhelmed with how quickly the three shows on 29th & 30th sold out. Thank you so much for the response.“We wanted to try to make this a global audience in the venue as well as online, so we’ve held back some venue tickets for sale – a pair for every country in the world across the three shows.
