Joel Edgerton is braving the chilly ocean water!
Watching the versatile, ever-evolving career of filmmaker David Lowery is something of a trip. He’s done very human indies (“A Ghost Story,” “The Old Man & the Gun“), crime films (“Ain’t No Bodies Saints“), but he also has a proclivity for big-budget fantasy, see 2016’s live-action adaptation of Disney’s “Pete’s Dragon.” His latest, “The Green Knight,” definitely bends towards fantasy and epic scope but seems to retain some of his indie roots.

Like pretty much every film that was originally due in theaters last year, A24‘s “The Green Knight” has had a long time to wait and remain patient. Directed by the eclectic filmmaker David Lowery (“A Ghost Story,” “The Old Man & the Gun”), his latest is an epic fantasy adventure based on a lesser-known Arthurian legend.
Andrei Tarkovsky was the name on Barry Jenkins‘ lips as the main influence for his television adaptation of “The Underground Railroad.” Not the first name to think of when considering the enormity of Colson Whitehead’s 2016 novel. The story: a combination of the distressing tribulations of an escapee slave girl with a hefty volume of magical realism, doesn’t immediately describe the Russian auteur.
