‘Salvatore: Shoemaker of Dreams’ Review: Luca Guadagnino Lovingly Lionizes Ferragamo

th-century immigration, youthful ambition, the dawn of Hollywood, passionate artistic hunger, tenacity, foot fascination and wild innovation. Thus Guadagnino’s carefully and lovingly detailed history lesson, free of stylistic flourishes, is as satisfying and methodical as that red shoe–making. This early nod to “The Wizard of Oz” is appropriate, too, as Ferragamo’s trajectory encompasses both the groundbreaking, rainbow-patterned, cork-heeled platform sandal he designed in 1938, reportedly for Judy Garland herself, and a teenage uprooting that not so faintly resembles that of the fictional Dorothy Gale, the smalltown girl dropped into an alien Technicolor environment.Born in 1898 to a farm family of 14 children in the village of Bonito, Italy, Ferragamo was fascinated by the neighborhood cobbler and spent hours watching and learning until, as a nine-year-old, he made his first shoes for his sisters’ Communion.

‘South Park’ parody of Prince Harry, Meghan Markle could turn into legal threat, royal expert claims

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry like to think they are just regular people, you know, you and me trying to figure a way through the minefield of life.  We know this, simply because they were honored at the recent Ripple of Hope Award Gala, which they picked up for racism within the Royal family no less, Harry produced this lame joke that he and Meghan were having a "date night," as with two children this was an opportunity to get out and enjoy each other’s company. Then he laughed like a drain with the audience. This came off as a pre-rehearsed and badly executed plot to show Harry and Meghan's fun, playful side, and my how we have missed that from Harry, right? It flopped badly, along with the fake laugh that Meghan offered and was so rehearsed.

‘The Damned Don’t Cry’ Review: Fyzal Boulifa’s Refined, Strikingly Queer Mother-Son Melodrama

Guy Lodge Film Critic In the little-remembered 1950 noir “The Damned Don’t Cry,” Joan Crawford plays a Texan housewife whose grief for her late son spurs her to make a new life for herself in the urban underworld. Fyzal Boulifa’s exquisite new film of the same title is named expressly for that Crawford vehicle, but is neither a remake nor a direct homage. Rather, it remixes the narrative components of that film and others of its ilk into the kind of new-school-old-school heart-tugger — one might say tearjerker if its characters weren’t, true to its title, stoically dry-eyed throughout — that might have been designed for the shoulder-padded diva were she alive in 2022 and, perhaps more crucially, of Moroccan heritage.

Steven Spielberg Explains at TCM Film Festival How ‘Close Encounters’ and His Parents’ Divorce Inspired ‘E.T.’ (Video)

TCM Film Festival, as well as how “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” directly inspired the story for the emotional sci-fi drama.Spielberg was in conversation with Ben Mankiewicz for nearly half an hour, kicking off the discussion with his experience of working with Joan Crawford on the TV series “Night Gallery.” Of working with Crawford, Spielberg said, “She was not Mommie Dearest.” The Oscar-winning filmmaker then discussed the making of his first big hit “Jaws” (the film went 100 days over schedule), before talking about how his 1977 film “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” inspired the story for “E.T.”“I had been working on an actual literal script about my parents’ separation and divorce, and I had been working on ideas about that and what it did to my sisters and myself, and this was back in 1976 when I was actually filming ‘Close Encounters,’” Spielberg began, before talking about a moment of inspiration while shooting the scene in which the aliens come out of the ship.“We’re shooting this scene and I suddenly thought wait a second, what if that little creature never went back to the ship? What if the creature was part of a foreign exchange program? Dreyfuss goes, he stays or she stays. And what was the feeling that I had: what if I turn my story about divorce into a story about children, a family, trying to fill the great need and creating such responsibility – a divorce creates great responsibility especially if you have siblings, we all take care of each other.
