Elizabeth Olsen and Jesse Plemons are stepping out for the premiere of their new HBO Max limited series!
Love & Death will premiere on HBO Max this week – you can find episode details below. The upcoming crime drama is based on the true story of Candy Montgomery, a housewife in 1980s Wylie, Texas, who pursues an affair with Allan Gore, her best friend Betty’s husband.Montgomery was accused and tried for murdering Betty, who was found dead in her home with multiple axe wounds.Alongside Olsen, the upcoming mini-series also stars Jesse Plemons, Lily Rabe and Krysten Ritter. There will be seven episodes of the mini-series in total, with the first three dropping on HBO Max on April 27.
Alison Herman TV Critic “Love & Death” feels familiar, as it should. The Max drama is the second series in less than a year to take on the same story: the case of Candy Montgomery, a Texas housewife who killed her friend and neighbor Betty Gore with an ax in 1980. This version follows closely on the heels of “Candy,” which aired on Hulu last year. The proximity practically demands comparison, and it’s tempting to draw up a laundry list of differences and call it a review. “Love & Death” casts Elizabeth Olsen as Montgomery, while “Candy” stars Jessica Biel. (The more jarring contrast is between the former’s Jesse Plemons and the latter’s Pablo Schreiber, two physically opposite actors who both assume the role of Allan Gore, Betty’s husband and Candy’s ex-lover.) “Candy” is inflected with horror, while “Love & Death” is more naturalist. “Candy” flashes back from the day of the murder, which saw Montgomery toggle from brutal homicide to eerily banal errands, while “Love & Death” is more linear in structure. The effect is not unlike that of 2019’s competing documentaries about the viral quagmire known as Fyre Festival, with the same details refracted through distinct sensibilities. But instead of racing to cover a recent event, these shows converge on a tragedy more than four decades old.
Former Friday Night Lights co-stars Connie Britton and Jesse Plemons are teaming up again for a new Netflix series, Zero Day.
Lizzy Caplan (Fleishman Is in Trouble and Fatal Attraction), Jesse Plemons (Power of The Dog, Fargo), Joan Allen (The Bourne Ultimatum, The Contender) and Connie Britton (White Lotus, Friday Night Lights) have been tapped for main roles opposite Robert De Niro in Netflix’s conspiracy thriller limited series Zero Day.
Firefly Lane ending and HBO Max's Love & Death premiering, you're in for quite the emotional—and thrilling—roller coaster this week. Both shows drop their episodes on Thursday and good luck picking what to stream first. But let's start with HBO Max's Love & Death, which airs the first three episodes before going to one a week until the limited series wraps up on May 25. Trust me when I say , which is no surprise given that prolific producer/writer David E.
Love & Death, I knew nothing of the real-life murder that rocked a small town in Texas in the early ‘80s on which the series is based. I also hadn’t watched (which examines the same story and premiered nearly a year ago, in May 2022).
EXCLUSIVE: Martin Scorsese has locked his cut of Killers of the Flower Moon and Deadline can reveal that the final run time will be three hours and 26 minutes. The Apple Original Films drama will make its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month, before it opens theatrically in October through Paramount Pictures and later moves to streaming globally on Apple TV+.
Zack Sharf Digital News Director “Killers of the Flower Moon” author David Grann recently told Vanity Fair that he is “pretty overwhelmed” that his 2017 non-fiction book, “Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI,” has been adapted into Martin Scorsese’s latest epic. The film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, is set to make its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month. Grann championed Scorsese for partnering with the Osage Nation during the film’s production. “One of the things that was really most impressive and important in the development process was less my involvement, but the involvement of members of the Osage Nation,” Grann said. “And early on, the Osage chief, Geoffrey Standing Bear, appointed several movie ambassadors from the Nation, from the government, to work with the movie folks. From everything I’ve heard, they really worked with a commitment to working with the Osage Nation, developing a story, even shooting on location. Many Osage are actually acting in the movie.”

Clayton Davis Senior Awards Editor What better way to officially close the door on an exhausting awards season than to look ahead –blindly — to what studios and production companies could bring to the screen in 2023. As Variety‘s awards coverage transitions into the Emmy season, this annual tradition (albeit highly inaccurate due to release shifts and other varying factors) creates some fun and wonder as Cannes looms two months away. Willem Dafoe is keeping it real in his acting. So real, that when a scene required a slap from costar Emma Stone, he had her practice on him 20 times. More amazing, the slap is off-camera in the film.
And, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster, The Favourite). In a profile interview with Dafoe by The New York Times, it’s revealed that Dafoe asked to be slapped repeatedly for a scene where Stone slaps his character, despite him being off camera in the shot.In the interview, it’s described how Dafoe “insisted that the move would look more genuine if he were actually being slapped”, and that he took the staged hit 20 times.“That’s what you want from actors,” Lanthimos said about Dafoe being on set even when he’s not required to be.
