Blumhouse horror franchises (mostly) seem to be keen on mixing things up with subsequent films, often changing casts, settings, and stories. This is probably best seen in “The Purge” franchise, which has morphed from a home invasion thriller in the original to a large-scale action film series with serious messages about politics and society as a whole.

The new movie Boss Level, which was recently released as a Hulu Original Film, is now the subject of a lawsuit filed by Blumhouse Productions.

The Exorcist universe is officially in the works at Blumhouse.Producer Jason Blum confirmed the news to Den of Geek, after years of speculation surrounding a potential remake.The film is set to be a sequel, with David Gordon Green due to be direct. There currently exists four sequels and a TV series, but Blum has said that the forthcoming film will connect closely to the original.“[It’s] going to be like David’s Halloween sequel,” Blum explained.

Though it was only released a little more than a year ago, it feels like a lifetime has passed since “The Hunt” hit theaters last March. Most of that feeling is due to the pandemic upending the entire world for more than a year.

The “Halloween” films are a franchise of many canons. The series has now retconned itself three times, although it’s up for debate whether Rob Zombie‘s pair of films from the late 2000s count as retcons or remakes.

Deadline has confirmed that the next Paranormal Activity movie will be directed by Underwater director William Eubank and written by Happy Death Day filmmaker and Paranormal Activity scribe Christopher Landon. He wrote installments two through four.
