Lars Ulrich explains why he had to stop fans stealing cushions at their shows

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has recounted how he had to stop fans from stealing cushions from venues they were playing and throwing them around during their sets.Ulrich recently appeared on the podcast Conan O’Brien’s Needs A Friend, in which he reflected on Metallica’s tour history in Los Angeles, the city where he formed the band with James Hetfield, and a place which he says has played host to “some of the best shows of our career” thanks to some particularly “passionate” fans. However, this sometimes escalated into fans throwing around cushions and leaving the band with a hefty bill to pay.Speaking of the Long Beach Arena specifically, Ulrich said: “What are there, 16,000 seats in there? We’ve paid for about 15,000 of those 16,000 seats over the years because every time we were playing Long Beach Arena, people would just take the cushion, you know, play frisbee with it inside the arena.“The next day [the venue staff] would be like, ‘Okay, Metallica, here’s those $300,000 worth of cushions that you have to pay for’.”Ulrich added that the band had to explicitly warn fans off doing anything similar to avoid them having to foot the bill. “We had to go on KNAC [radio station] multiple times and go ‘Listen, whatever.

Here’s Metallica’s James Hetfield covering Seal’s ‘Kiss From A Rose’, thanks to AI

Seal‘s ‘Kiss From A Rose’, covered by Metallica frontman James Hetfield. In recent months, a whole host of artificially generated cover versions have been shared online, seeing famous artists cover hit songs not in their traditional wheelhouse.Recently, we’ve been treated to The Beatles ‘covering’ The Beach Boys and a controversial ‘cover’ of Hole’s ‘Celebrity Skin’ by Kurt Cobain. The ‘Kiss From A Rose’ cover with vocals from Hetfield is as unexpected as it sounds, and sees Seal’s soulful voice replaced by Hetfield’s trademark bark.Hear the AI creation below. The most infamous AI-created music to come out so far, though, is an AI-generated “lost” Oasis album that was released earlier this year. The eight-track ‘AISIS’ album was developed by indie band Breezer, who created their own tracks over lockdown before adding an AI take of Liam Gallagher’s vocals over the top.Described as an “alternate reality concept album”, it came about after the band got “bored of waiting for Oasis to reform.”Responding to the record, Liam took to Twitter to confirm he’d listened to a couple of the tracks and they were “better than all the other snizzle out there.” He went on to call the project “mad as fuck” before adding that his AI vocals sounded “mega”.Speaking to NME as part of the ongoing In Conversation series (watch above), Noel Gallagher then had his say on the AI-generated album.“These fucking idiots have clearly got too much time on their hands and too much money that they can afford the technology to fucking piss around doing that for a laugh,” said Noel before revealing that he was “saving up for the technology myself.”“Then I’m just gonna dial it in to some computer and fucking churn it out when I’m 73.

Metallica’s ’72 Seasons’ Is a Rager in the Band’s Classic Style, Even if Lyrics Leave Anger Behind: Album Review

A.D. Amorosi Since the group’s rabid four-album start, setting a ridiculously high bar for turning doom-metal and thrash-nihilism into wrenchingly emotional high art has been the blessing and curse of Metallica. “Kill ‘Em All” in 1983, the following year’s 1984’s “Ride the Lightning,” 1986’s “Master of Puppets” and 1988’s “…And Justice for All” blend into a single, crushing aesthetic achievement, an innovation akin to Stevie Wonder or David Bowie’s runs in the 1970s, where each recording was as breathlessly anticipated as it was thunderingly rewarding. The new “72 Seasons” comes close to Metallica’s bone-crushing, skull-f%$3ng, ire-clinging peak, with more raging guitar solos courtesy of Kirk Hammett, if just a hint of the lyrical anger management by James Hetfield that we’ve heard since the therapy sessions contained in 2004’s “Metallica: Some Kind of Monster” doc.
