Giancarlo Esposito may be a big star now, but times were so tough in the aughts that he considered committing insurance fraud to help pay the bills.
Giancarlo Esposito says that he was so broke at one point in his career that he considered committing insurance fraud to make sure his kids were taken care of financially.
Zack Sharf Digital News Director Giancarlo Esposito appeared on a recent episode of SiriusXM’s “Jim & Sam” show while promoting his new AMC drama series “Parish” and revealed that he was so broke prior to landing his iconic role of Gus Fring on “Breaking Bad” that he once considered arranging his own murder so that his children could have some financial protection courtesy of his life insurance money. The actor considered this around 2008, a year before “Breaking Bad” inextricably changed his career by making him an iconic villain and opening the door for roles in “The Mandalorian,” “The Boys” and more. Asked how he got out of near bankruptcy around 2008, Esposito said, “My way out in my brain was…’Hey, do you get life insurance if someone commits suicide? Do they get the bread?’ My wife had no idea why I was asking this stuff.

We’re just days away from the premiere of Guy Ritchie‘s new television series The Gentlemen and the stars stepped out for a UK red carpet premiere.
Witty, nimble, sharply dressed, and light on its feet, Guy Ritchie’s dexterous “The Gentlemen” is a largely surprising delight (mostly, anyhow)—an entertaining crime comedy with a snap, crackle, and pop that’s far superior to the more self-enamored 2019 film of the same name whence it came. The connections to the original are tenuous at best, nothing more than the cannabis and drug empires milieus in the U.K.
The new Netflix series The Gentlemen from Guy Ritchie has an official full-length trailer and character posters!
In 2019, filmmaker Guy Ritchie went back to his crime comedy roots with “The Gentlemen,” a film very much in the vein of early films like “Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels” and “Snatch.” And, of course, in the ensuing years, especially during the pandemic, in the rush and craze for content, everyone wanted a spin-off that would pay handsomely for them, and creators were more happy to oblige.
At this point, there’s a whole subgenre called “a particular set of skills” stories. Popularized by Liam Neeson and his “Taken” film series, this genre finds an older man called upon to return to his old way of life, which typically means kicking ass and murdering people.
Diego Ramos Bechara editor The role of a storyteller goes beyond simply bringing the words on a page to life. “We’ve been trained from a very young age and educated to think a certain way,” Giancarlo Esposito said.
Monday night’s 75th Emmy Awards. That’s a new all-time record for futility, people, and was one of the biggest snubs on television’s biggest night, part-and-parcel of the dominance of “Succession,” “Beef” and “The Bear.”“Better Call Saul” star Odenkirk was nominated six times for Best Lead Actor in a Drama for playing slimy lawyer Jimmy McGill — a k a Saul Goodman — but failed to ever take home a statuette.
Better Call Saul is one of the most celebrated shows in recent history, but the series just set a record that likely wasn’t expected.
After six seasons and 53 Emmy nominations, including seven for Outstanding Drama Series, Better Call Saul has left us without a single win.
Emmy Awards for the 2022-2023 TV season had to overcome the challenge of seeming like a complete afterthought — and for the most part it succeeded. The ceremony for the 75th Emmys was designed as a tribute to the medium, and featured reunions from shows such as “All in the Family,” “The Sopranos,” “Martin” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” the last of which featured the beloved, departed cast members Katherine Heigl and Justin Chambers, alongside OG stars Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr.
The new Netflix series The Gentlemen from Guy Ritchie has its debut trailer.
As we recently noted, it’s time to move over Ridley Scott and Steven Spielberg (and maybe even Steven Soderbergh) because if not the hardest-working man in film showbiz, director Guy Ritchie might be the fastest-moving director in showbiz. Ritchie just announced a new movie, “The Fountain Of Youth,” with Natalie Portman and John Krasinski, but it’s possible he may release two other films in 2024.
Valerie Wu Intern “The Gentlemen,” Netflix’s TV series follow-up to Guy Ritchie’s 2019 British gangster film, has released a trailer. Set in the world of the original, the new series features a cast of new characters, including Theo James as the Duke of Halstead, Ray Winstone as cannabis empire founder Bobby Glass and Kaya Scodelario as Bobby’s daughter and the empire’s operations leader. Guy Ritchie serves as creator, co-writer, executive producer (the latter two positions shared with Matthew Read) and directs the first two episodes.
