David Gilmour promotes documentary on Roger Waters’ alleged anti-Semitism

David Gilmour has continued his long running feud with former Pink Floyd bandmate, Roger Waters, by sharing a documentary detailing instances of alleged anti-Semitism from the latter.Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Gilmour retweeted a post about a documentary titled The Dark Side Of Roger Waters, originally published by the Campaign Against Antisemitism, which produced the project.Rogers has previously spoken out against the documentary with a post to his official website, dismissing the project as “a flimsy, unapologetic piece of propaganda”. He also claimed that it “indiscriminately mixes things I’m alleged to have said or done at different times and in different contexts, in an effort to portray me as an antisemite, without any foundation in fact”.The clip shared by Gilmour sees two of Waters’ former collaborators recall their experiences working with the musician, and the instances where they reportedly saw him make anti-Semitic comments. The first of which was from Waters’ former saxophonist Nortber Statchel, who told BBC journalist John Ware about a time when the Pink Floyd musician allegedly imitated a stereotypically poor Polish woman as a reference to his Jewish ancestors.

Roger Waters Announces Solo Remake of Pink Floyd’s ‘Dark Side of the Moon,’ Releases a Whispered ‘Money’ as First Teaser

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic Move over, Taylor Swift — Roger Waters has re-recorded the most famous of the albums he made with Pink Floyd in the 1970s for its 50th anniversary. The project, titled “The Dark Side of the Moon Redux,” comes out Oct. 6. The album’s first single, “Money,” a fresh take on the 1973 song that was the band’s biggest hit, was released today as an audio track and lyric video. Any similarities to Swift’s re-recordings end with the most basic concept, as Water says he does not mean the new version to supplant the old one, but to complement it as a more mature take on the material. As for the big question of who will replaced his estranged former partner David Gilmour’s lead vocal and guitar parts, the seven-and-a-half minute “Money” seems to at least partially answer that. Taking over Gilmour’s role on the mic in the song, Waters “sings” the song in a spoken whisper, and the guitar solo has been replaced by what seems to be a new, lengthy poem set in a metaphorical boxing-ring. The tune has been significantly transformed in other ways; it’s bluesier and less rocking, with no cash registers or random voices or other sound effects. Some of the first listeners to hear it after it came out in the wee hours compared it to a Leonard Cohen recitation.

Roger Waters Doubles Down on Controversial Comments and Conspiracy Theories at London Show: Concert Review

Mark Sutherland “I know you didn’t come here to listen to this,” sighed Roger Waters as he surveyed the O2 crowd. With most aging rockers on a “first-ever farewell tour”, that statement would likely mean they were about to play some new material. At Roger Waters’ show, sadly, it meant he was about to sing the same old song. Sure enough, an extended rant against “the Israeli lobby” and British MP Christian Wakeford followed.  “They are trying to cancel me,” he claimed, to at first hesitant, but then louder applause. “And it hurts. We’ve done 80 shows and we’ve done nothing but share our love for people. That’s why I’m so pissed off with this Israeli lobby bullshit.” He also accused his critics of, “Making up stuff because you’ve been told to by your masters from the Foreign Office in Tel Aviv.”

Roger Waters’ Manchester gig should be banned, says MP

Roger Waters‘ should not perform in Manchester due to fears that his “divisive actions” could fuel anti-Jewish hatred. The former Pink Floyd member has been provoking controversy with his live shows – the most recent taking place in Berlin on May 17 in which he wore an outfit that some deemed as having connotations to the Second World War, mentioned Anne Frank and pretended to fire a rifle.According to BBC News, the Bury South Labour MP Christian Wakeford told other MPs his concern about Waters playing at the AO Arena on June 10, explaining that “The city of Manchester has a rich and vibrant history in which those of different faiths and backgrounds have lived together as well as stood together through difficult times and times of division.”Roger Waters has a long history of vile attacks against Jewish people. His recent shows in Berlin show why he should not be welcome in Manchester.

Pink Floyd’s $500 Million Catalog Sale Is ‘Basically Dead’ — Or Is It?

Jem Aswad Senior Music Editor Pink Floyd’s proposed $500 million sale of the rights to their iconic five-decade, multiplatinum recorded-music catalog is “basically dead” because the surviving bandmembers “just can’t get along,” four sources close to the situation tell Variety — however, sources close to the band insist that it’s not. “You could say the deal is no longer ‘active,’” one of the four sources says. “But at the same time, it’s still on the table. It’s a strange situation!” It’s par for the course with this long-running and contentious proposed deal, which sees Roger Waters and David Gilmour, the two long-feuding principals of one of the most critically and financially successful acts of the rock era, taking public potshots at each other while simultaneously trying to find enough common ground to close a deal sources say could reach a half-billion dollars.

Roger Waters corrects “grubby little” article: “I love Dave Gilmour’s guitar solos”

Roger Waters has criticised a “grubby little” article that insinuated that he didn’t like the music of his former Pink Floyd bandmate David Gilmour. In a new piece by Stuart Maconie in The New Statesman titled ‘The war within Pink Floyd’, the author referenced Waters’ current project of re-recording the band’s iconic album ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’.The article discussed the process, saying: “Parts of this will involve him removing, as quote in Spain’s El Pais newspaper, Gilmour’s ‘horrible guitar solos.'”In a Facebook post Waters took exception to the quote, calling the story “the usual, shit stirring, ill informed nonsense” and criticising what he called the “unearned condescending authority” of the piece. He wrote: “There is a crappy article in The New Statesman, written, if you can call it writing, by a chap called Stuart Maconie. It’s the usual, shit stirring, ill informed nonsense.“However, there is, in the article, something upon which I need to set the record straight.

With Documentary on Abbey Road Studios, Mary McCartney Digs Into the Family Legacy, but Also 90 Years of Recording Lore

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic When Mary McCartney was approached by producer John Battsek (“Searching for Sugar Man,” “One Day in September”) to make a film about the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London, she didn’t immediately leap at the chance, the way almost any other photographer interested in making the leap into documentary filmmaking might have. It’s not difficult to guess at the reason she might have balked at, and then succumbed to, the idea of making “If These Walls Could Sing,” which premiered at the Telluride Film Festival over the weekend and has been picked up for airing on Disney+. “I think because of my surname, I get a little bit oversensitive,” says the daughter of Paul McCartney, sitting at a sidewalk-adjacent table in Telluride. “I used to sort of shy away from anything to do with my family, wanting with my photography to be making a name for myself in my own area. I mean, I’ve always been really proud of my family, but then recently I’ve realized (I should) actually not shy away from it because I feel like I’m being judged. …. Before, I was like, my family’s my family and my career’s my career, and now I’m at the point where I’m confident enough to merge the two.”

Pink Floyd reportedly set to make £400million from back catalogue sale

Pink Floyd are reportedly set to make £400million from the sale of their back catalogue.Back in May, it was revealed that the legendary rockers were in talks to sell their entire catalogue, with a potential price for the sale reaching the hundreds of millions. Now, as reported by The Times, the band are looking for a £400million sale for their whole back catalogue, with private equity group Blackstone battling with major labels Sony, Warner, BMG and more to seal the deal. The sale, which would include Pink Floyd’s songs and master recordings, comes after they reunited earlier this year for new song ‘Hey, Hey, Rise Up!’, the band’s first original material since 1994’s ‘Division Bell’ album. The track was released to draw attention to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and to raise funds for those affected by the war, with all proceeds from the song donated to Ukrainian Humanitarian Relief. In a statement, David Gilmour – who has a Ukrainian family – explained that the band released the song to draw attention to the war and to raise money for humanitarian efforts.“We want to express our support for Ukraine and in that way, show that most of the world thinks that it is totally wrong for a superpower to invade the independent democratic country that Ukraine has become,” Gilmour said. The likes of Neil Diamond, Sting, Bob Dylan, ZZ Top, Tina Turner and Stevie Nicks have all sold their back catalogues recently. Many artists – including Neil Young, Blondie, Shakira and Fleetwood Mac‘s Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie – have all sold the rights to their catalogues via the Hipgnosis Song Fund.
