‘DIG! XX’ Review: Ondi Timoner’s Outstanding 2004 Rock Doc Is Back For More – Sundance Film Festival

At the height of their failure, every day was Altamont for the Brian Jonestown Massacre, the San Francisco outfit founded in 1990 by Anton Newcombe, the Klaus Kinski of psychedelic rock. Just in time for this 20th anniversary overhaul of Ondi Timoner’s breakthrough documentary, the BJM were back in the news as recently as November 2023, when the first night of an Australian tour ended in a riot. That the riot was confined to the stage, and played out in front of a dumbfounded audience, is DIG! XX in a nutshell, a welcome return for a film that no less an authority than Dave Grohl calls, in a specially filmed new intro, “the greatest rock’n’roll documentary of all time”.

Appeals Court reinstates Spencer Elden’s ‘Nevermind’ child pornography lawsuit

Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ album, has had his child pornography lawsuit against the band reinstated by a US Court of Appeals. In September 2022, a US District judge in Los Angeles ruled that the ‘Nevermind’ cover image, which features a naked photograph of four-month-old Elden, did not constitute child pornography. That was the third time that Elden had attempted to sue the surviving members of the band – Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic – as well as the estate of Kurt Cobain, photographer Krik Weddle and numerous record labels. At that time, the court told Elden, now 32, that he would not be allowed to file a fourth lawsuit, and lawyers representing Nirvana dubbed the ruling a “final conclusion” to a saga that had begun back in August 2021.However, in December 2022, Elden moved to appeal the court’s dismissal.

Rush reunion with bandmate Alex Lifeson.Fans assumed the band had broken up for good after the death of drummer Neil Peart in 2020, who quietly battled brain cancer for three years.Opening up in a new interview with The Washington Post, the musician reflected on the band having a reunion of sorts at the Taylor Hawkin’s tribute concerts last year in memory of the Foo Fighters drummer.“It had been a taboo subject,” he said of the experience. “And playing those songs again with a third person was the elephant in the room, and that kind of disappeared.”During the tribute shows in Los Angeles and London, Lee and Lifeson played Rush songs alongside a host of musical friends including the Foo’s own Dave Grohl, Tool‘s Danny Carey, Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ Chad Smith and Omar Hakim.Lee said: “It was nice to know that if we decide to go out, Alex and I, whether we went out as part of a new thing, or whether we just wanted to go out and play Rush as Rush, we could do that now.”Following Peart’s death, Lee seemed to suggest that Rush’s touring days were definitely behind them.“That’s finished, right? That’s over,” he told Rolling Stone early in 2021.
