Stephanie Hsu is really busy — the “Everything Everywhere All at Once” Oscar nominee has been commuting from California to Australia for the past few weeks while filming “The Fall Guy” with Ryan Gosling and attending various events and ceremonies to promote “Everything Everywhere,” directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, which earned 11 Academy Award nominations. She beams with pride when discussing this moment in her life. The daughter of a Chinese immigrant who was a single mother, Hsu has been talking with her family and friends about the road that’s led her to this moment — including her best friend Alan, who told her she did it without having to be “born into this industry,” or a family friend emailing her mother to recall the time she brought a young Hsu to the friend’s house intending to convince her to study business. “Aren’t you glad she didn’t?” the friend wrote.

Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter Evelyn Wang’s hot dog fingers from “Everything Everywhere All at Once” can soon be yours. A24, the indie studio behind the Oscar-nominated film, is auctioning off the props from the zany sci-fi adventure for charity. Fans will be able to bid on the original decor, wardrobe and set pieces from the multiversal “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” including but not limited to the taxidermy stuffed raccoon called Raccacoonie, Deirdre Beaubeirdree’s Auditor of the Year trophy (that, yes, doubles as a butt plug), Jobu Tupaki’s Elvis jumpsuit and the Rockverse rocks (a delight of Colin Farrell’s). The online bidding for A24’s auction starts on Feb. 23 at 9 a.m. PT and closes on March 2 at 12 p.m. PT. All of the proceeds will be donated to one of the three charities — Laundry Workers Center, Transgender Law Center and Asian Mental Health Project — selected by the filmmakers Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, know professionally as the Daniels.

The DGA Awards, which has historically matched up best with the eventual winner of best director, chose the “Everything Everywhere All at Once” duo of Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. They’re the third directing team to win in the DGA’s 75-year history (after Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins for “West Side Story” and Joel Coen and Ethan Coen for “No Country for Old Men”). Only eight DGA winners have failed to walk away with the Academy Award in the same season, with the last instance being Sam Mendes (“1917”), who won at DGA but lost to Bong Joon Ho (“Parasite”) at the 2020 Oscars.

At tonight’s DGA Awards, directors Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert landed Best Theatrical Feature with their A24 smash Everything Everywhere All At Once — besting competition that included Todd Field (Tár), Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick), Martin McDonagh (The Banshees of Inisherin) and Steven Spielberg (The Fabelmans) in their first time out at the ceremony.

The 76th British Academy Film Awards will take place tonight, as stars of film from around the world descend on London to celebrate the best achievements in filmmaking from the past year. The nominations were announced by Captain America actress Hayley Atwell and Ted Lasso’s Toheeb Jimoh via a live broadcast from London on January 19.

In TV, “Severance,” “Station Eleven” and “The Daily Show” were among the frontrunners (with two nods each), while Steven Spielberg was gunning for his fourth trophy, for the semi-autobiographical “The Fabelmans.” But also in the hunt are Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, the duo behind the sci-fi comedy “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” At the DGA, Spielberg holds the record for the most nominations and wins, at 13 and three, respectively. The DGA boasts a voting body of around 19,000 members. Over its 75-year history, the DGA Awards has been the most reliable barometer for the Oscars’ best director prize. Spike Lee has said he’d like Twitter to calm down regarding director Daniel Scheinert calling Lee’s Malcolm X a “crime movie”.Scheinert invoked the wrath of many movie fans on the internet when he appeared on  The Criterion Collection’s Closet Picks. Stating his admiration for the film, the Oscar-nominated director referred to the 1997 biopic as “maybe my favourite crime movie”.However, Lee has now responded to the furore by telling those calling for the director to be dragged and cancelled to calm down. “I’d never heard that description before,” Lee told The Guardian.

Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton, the heirs to the UK throne, will attend the upcoming BAFTA for the first time in three years, Kensington Palace has announced. William, who has been the president of BAFTA since 2010, and Kate will watch the ceremony being held at the Royal Festival Hall on 19 February before meeting the winners and Rising Star Award nominees.The royal couple last attended the event in person in 2020 with the prince last year recording a video message in his place, in which he congratulated those nominated and praised the work of BAFTAs programmes.

While Michelle Yeoh and Angela Bassett are breaking ground in the acting categories, RRR is bringing Indian representation to a stacked list of contenders for best original song.Michelle Yeoh is the first Asian-identifying woman to be nominated in the best actress category for her starring role in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

The Oscar nominations revealed Tuesday did not include any female directors, extending a trend that across this season’s awards landscape. It means the modest streak of women winning the Directing Oscar will end at two, after back-to-back wins the past two years with Jane Campion (The Power of the Dog) in 2022 and Chloé Zhao (Nomadland) in 2021.

Everything Everywhere All At Once announced itself this morning as a serious Oscar threat with 11 nominations, topping off with best picture. That includes performing noms for Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Lee Curtis, Stephanie Hsu and Ke Huy Quan. The film also drew noms for costume, original score, original screenplay, best original song, film editing, and directing for Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.

Hollywood is notoriously fickle. It can create stars overnight and toss them aside as quickly, moving on to the next big thing. Once you are gone, you are usually forgotten, with no second shot at stardom and no career do-overs.
