Wilson Chapman editor “Saturday Night Live” parodied the intense social media reaction to the drama surrounding popular online comedy group the Try Guys with a sketch that featured parodies of the group’s remaining three members. Episode host Brendan Gleeson, who was on the show to promote his upcoming film “The Banshees of Inisherin,” starred in the sketch as a CNN White House correspondent reporting on important developments in America’s relations with Russia. But — much to the befuddlement of anchor Ego Nwodim — Gleeson interrupts the report to announce that the Try Guys have responded to the controversy surrounding Ned Fulmer, who was fired from the group after admitting to a “consensual workplace relationship” with a producer of the group’s online video series.

Wilson Chapman editor “Saturday Night Live” lampooned the seemingly endless barrage of bad headlines in in the opening sketch of Season 48’s second episode. Bowen Yang starred in the opener as a game show host for “So You Think You Won’t Snap,” a program which features contestants being read real-life headlines in an attempt to make them snap, whether that means breaking a glass or punching an assistant. Also in the sketch was Heidi Gardner as a yoga teacher who is forced to watch a video of President Joe Biden talking about his mental state on CNN; Chloe Fineman as a an apolitical mom outraged by Chris Pratt’s voice acting in the “Super Mario Bros” movie; Kenan Thompson as a contestant who loses it at the very mention of Elon Musk; and Devon Walker as a contestant who is confronted by a barrage of negative news involving Kanye West. Clayton Davis Sam Mendes’ “Empire of Light,” a love story and ode to cinema houses, is dividing critics after playing at the Telluride and Toronto film festivals earlier this month. However, Searchlight Pictures remains confident in its awards prospects. “Empire” is among this season’s divisive films, including “Bardo” from Alejandro G. Iñárritu and “The Son” from Florian Zeller. However, one of the agreed-upon highlights of the film is the quality of the actors’ performances — notably Oscar winner Olivia Colman, breakout star Micheal Ward and veteran actor Toby Jones. As categories become upended with the news of Michelle Williams campaigning for lead actress, instead of supporting, Ward’s campaign is cementing its strategy early by seeking supporting actor consideration for this awards season, Variety has confirmed. Playing Stephen, a young ticket-taker that begins a love affair with Hilary (Colman), a middle-aged woman coming out of a mental health episode, Ward holds his own against the three-time nominee and Oscar winner for “The Favourite” (2018).

really mean? That “The Fabelmans” will win Best Picture because it’s a very personal coming-of-age story from one of our most revered filmmakers, and because it’s also about the movies? That Fraser will win Best Actor for his harrowing performance in Darren Aronofsky’s “The Whale?” That Blanchett will win Best Actress for playing an out-of-control conductor in Todd Fields’ “Tár?”And, while we’re throwing out predictions, that the supporting Oscars will go to Michelle Williams for “The Fabelmans” and, say, Brendan Gleeson for “The Banshees of Inisherin?”Yeah, maybe all of those things will happen. Maybe “The Fabelmans” will be a rare film that emerges from the fall festivals as the frontrunner and never loses momentum.
