The “Top Gun: Maverick” legend wasn’t the only star Hollywood’s latest group of Oscar contenders were excited about seeing at Monday’s nominees luncheon. “The Banshees of Inisherin” stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson gushed over meeting Paul Mescal (“Aftersun”). “I spent a long time chatting with him,” Gleeson told me after the annual luncheon at the Beverly Hilton. In fact, Gleeson texted Mescal after the nominations were announced in January. “I had to ask my son Domhnall for his number. I was very proud of [Mescal],” Gleeson said.

Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton, the heirs to the UK throne, will attend the upcoming BAFTA for the first time in three years, Kensington Palace has announced. William, who has been the president of BAFTA since 2010, and Kate will watch the ceremony being held at the Royal Festival Hall on 19 February before meeting the winners and Rising Star Award nominees.The royal couple last attended the event in person in 2020 with the prince last year recording a video message in his place, in which he congratulated those nominated and praised the work of BAFTAs programmes.

The two stars of The Banshees of Inisherin, Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, will not appear at tonight’s 28th annual Critics Choice Awards, honoring the finest achievements of filmmaking and television programming in 2022.

Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin promises a reunion of the In Bruges team of Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, and it overdelivers, featuring supporting performances from both Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan that are attracting the attention of awards groups internationally. Keoghan has had a charmed run in recent years, crossing directors like Yorgos Lanthimos, Christopher Nolan, David Lowery and Chloé Zhao off his list of must-work-withs (and there’s a literal list). And he was the highlight of this year’s The Batman, becoming the latest actor to play the Joker, even though his single scene didn’t make the final cut.

The Banshees of Inisherin stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson have been tapped to receive the Cinema Vanguard Award at the 38th annual Santa Barbara Film Festival.

BAFTA has unveiled the longlists across all categories for its 2023 Film Awards, and Martin McDonagh’s tragicomedy The Banshees Of Inisherin and Netflix’s All Quiet on the Western Front lead. Scroll down for the lists in full.

Martin McDonagh’s tragicomedy The Banshees Of Inisherin leads this year’s London Film Critics Circle nominations with nine nods, followed by Charlotte Wells’s acclaimed debut Aftersun, which nabbed eight nominations.

The Banshees Of Inisherin and Everything Everywhere All At Once head the nominations for the 12th edition of the AACTA International Awards, with six nods apiece. They were followed by Elvis with four nominations.

Colin Farrell will receive the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actor at the Palm Springs International Film Awards on Jan. 5, the Palm Springs International Film Festival announced Wednesday.Farrell will receive the award for his performance in Martin McDonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin,” in which he plays a plodding man of simple tastes whose daily trips to the pub take a dark but humorous turn when his best friend (played by Farrell’s “In Bruges” costar Brendan Gleeson) suddenly says he doesn’t want to be friends anymore.

Over the past two weekends in limited release, Martin McDonagh’s tragicomedy starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson has posted better numbers than Focus Features’ “Tár” but well short of McDonagh’s 2017 Oscar winner “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.” That trend has continued as “Inisherin” beat the $1 million total earned last weekend by “Tár” from 1,095 theaters while grossing roughly half of the $4.4 million 3-day total that “Three Billboards” earned from 614 theaters on Thanksgiving weekend five years ago. Such a result is to be expected, as arthouses that survived the COVID-19 pandemic labor to bring audiences back to theaters for critically-acclaimed but challenging fare.
