You can’t mention director Andrew Stanton’s name without thinking about two things, the Oscar-winning Pixar animated film “Wall-E” and the infamous box office flop “John Carter” which starred Taylor Kitsch. The last movie, which debuted in 2012, seemed to have derailed Stanton’s feature-length film work for years.

If you follow the social media chatter and the general feeling from most pundits, it could be a viable awards contender for Warner Bros. One category being debated is where the screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach would be able to compete — whether in original or adapted screenplay. The answer lies in how the WGA classifies it and whether the Academy could or would overrule that choice. Variety confirms there are ongoing conversations with strategists and Warner Bros regarding where “Barbie” would compete at next year’s ceremony. On the title cards, it reads “Based on ‘Barbie’ by Mattel,” which is, of course, a toy company. At the same time, there have been multiple CGI films and TV series featuring the fashion doll since its debut in the late 1980s (42 to be precise). This would point to an “adapted” run. However, take the case of Pixar’s inaugural feature “Toy Story” (1995), which picked up an original screenplay nom (Joss Whedon, Andrew Stanton, Joel Cohen, Alec Sokolow, John Lasseter, Pete Docter, Joe Ranft). In that case, it offers a pathway for original. The CGI classic features characters such as Mr. Potato Head, a Hasbro product, and other toys such as Etch A Sketch, Magic 8 Ball and even parts of Barbie herself. Part of the Mutant Toys, which are creations of Andy’s sadistic kid neighbor Sid, he has one called “Legs” — which are a pair of Barbie doll legs attached to a green toy fishing rod.

John Bleasdale Guest Contributor “Ozi, Voice of the Forest” premiered at the Annecy Festival on June 13, kicking off a series of films that seek to highlight dangers to the environment.  The film tells the story of a young orangutan Ozi, voiced by Amandla Stenberg (“The Hunger Games”), who becomes separated from her parents when her rain forest home is devastated by a company producing palm oil.  With the additional voice talents of Laura Dern, Djimon Hounsou and Donald Sutherland, the film also boasts a broad array of talent behind the camera including Keith Chapman, creator of “PAW Patrol” and Madrid-based Rodrigo Blaas, behind the “Sith” episode in “Star Wars Visions,” as part of the creative team. Leonardo DiCaprio and legendary producer and former studio head Mike Medavoy are credited as producers.

Britain’s Got Talent legend Paul Potts has hit out at new judge Bruno Tonioli for his choice of colourful language, after Bruno turned the airwaves red with his swearing during this weeks semi-finals. Paul, who famously won the very first series of the show as an opera singer back in 2007, took issue with Bruno’s swearing, as he insisted the former Strictly Come Dancing star needed to “ring it in.” The swearing furore first kicked off on Tuesday, when 67 year old Bruno accidentally swore live on air as the judges were watching daredevil Andrew Stanton perform a series of gruesome tasks.

Wednesday night's Britain's Got Talent kicked off with an apology about Tuesday's show, from hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly.The duo brought viewers' attention back to some swearing that happened the previous night, with Ant identifying the guilty party. New judge Bruno Tonioli was mortified as he realised that he had been caught out and as he was exposed, boos could be heard from the live audience. On Tuesday night viewers at home could hear Bruno, 67, appear to say: "F***ing hell" during the second live semi-final of the series.

Britain’s Got Talent hopeful Andrew Stanton left viewers floored with his “horrifying” act. Walking on to the stage, Andrew refused to speak to Simon Cowell when asked for his name and what he’d be doing. Knowing he wasn’t going to get a response, the judge simply wished Andrew luck.

The “Hamilton” and “Blindspotting” star joins “SNL” alum Kate McKinnon and Rashida Jones in “In the Blink of an Eye,” from Searchlight Pictures. The film follows three storylines spanning thousands of years, pondering hope, connection and the circle of life. Stanton was the lone director on animated hits like “Finding Nemo,” its sequel “Finding Dory” and “WALL-E.” He’s also helmed episodes of “Stranger Things” and “Better Call Saul.” Colby Day wrote the script and will executive produce. Jared Ian Goldman (“Ingrid Goes West”) is producing. Searchlight production SVP Taylor Friedman and creative exec Apolline Berty are overseeing for the studio, reporting to production and development heads Katie Goodson-Thomas and DanTram Nguyen.

Kate McKinnon is ready to go cosmic.The former “Saturday Night Live” cast member is set to star in Searchlight’s “In the Blink of an Eye,” a sci-fi epic from “WALL•E” director Andrew Stanton, TheWrap has confirmed.The script, which finished in the top 25 of the 2016 Black List, was written by Colby Day. Back then, the project was described as exploring “the entire history of the universe and our species through three interwoven storylines that question the very nature of life, love, mortality, where we’ve been, and where we’re going; the past, present, and future of the human race.” Other projects that were in that list includes Liz Hannah’s “The Post,” made by Steven Spielberg; “O2,” made as “Oxygen” by French filmmaker Alexandre Aja for Netflix; and “Free Guy,” made with Ryan Reynolds.While details are being kept under wraps, the original script followed characters in three different time periods – a family of Neanderthals., a woman in modern day and a genetically augmented character in the distant future.

The in-person awards ceremony and cocktail reception took place at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank, Calif., where fellow creatives and representatives in the animation space celebrated this year’s class of rising storytellers. In what Criterion is describing as their “first collaboration” with fabled animation studio Pixar, Andrew Stanton’s “WALL•E” will be joining the collection this November (spine #1161). And, typical of Criterion releases, it will be festooned with special features, including a new essay (by Sam Wasson), a pair of audio commentaries and a new documentary called “WALL•E A to Z,” featuring co-writer/director Andrew Stanton and writer Jim Reardon.“WALL•E,” released back in 2008, originated as an idea from “Up” director (and current Pixar chief creative officer) Pete Docter called “Trash Planet.” Soon the idea mutated, as it was passed to Stanton and the focus became squarely on a small, lonely robot inhabiting an abandoned, garbage-covered Earth.

The special edition of “Wall-E,” the first collaboration between Criterion and Disney’s Pixar, features a 4K digital master approved by director Andrew Stanton, according to Criterion. Andrew Stanton is in talks to direct Chairman Spaceman for Searchlight Pictures and Genre Films, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Stanton will board the movie based on a 2017 New Yorker fiction story by Thomas Pierce about an infamous corporate raider who renounces his worldly wealth to become an interplanetary missionary.
