Xenonauts 2 is launching in Early Access in July, publisher Hooded Horse has confirmed. While a 2023 release window was confirmed back in January, Hooded Horse has now specified that Xenonauts 2 will be launching in Early Access on July 18.A follow-up to 2014’s Xenonauts, Xenonauts 2 takes place in an alternate 2009 where the Cold War never ended. Against this backdrop, players control a secretive group defending Earth from an alien invasion — a challenge that involves shooting down UFOs, deploying soldiers to fight on the ground, and reverse-engineering advanced alien technology. While Xenonauts 2 will sound familiar to fans of Firaxis‘ XCOM reboot, the sequel is more of a spiritual successor to the original ’90s run of X-COM games, which are seen as more challenging and detail-oriented.https://youtu.be/Y8r4HyUpKfMAs part of Xenonauts 2‘s “in-depth strategic layer,” the game’s Steam page notes that players will need to build bases across the globe, conduct “multiple avenues of research,” and prioritise how scavenged alien technology is utilised. On the battlefield, the sequel will also introduce a new faction: Cleaners, a human group of alien sympathisers who will fight alongside the invaders and work to undermine your defences.

Alison Herman TV Critic Over 20 years ago, screenwriter Akiva Goldsman penned the script for “A Beautiful Mind,” the Oscar-winning biopic of mathematician and diagnosed schizophrenic John Nash. To convey Nash’s subjective experience of his condition, “A Beautiful Mind” pulled a bait-and-switch. Early in the film, we meet Nash’s college roommate, who becomes his lifelong friend; later, it’s revealed the roommate was a figment of Nash’s imagination. At the time, the twist was effective enough to earn Goldsman an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. The limited series “The Crowded Room,” created by Goldsman for Apple TV+, attempts the same trick to greatly diminished returns. A simple Wikipedia search shows that “The Crowded Room” was inspired by Billy Milligan, the first defendant acquitted by invoking a case of dissociative identity disorder in the late 1970s. But ahead of the show’s release, critics were asked not to disclose the fractured mental state of Danny Sullivan, the Milligan analog played with doe-eyed naiveté of Tom Holland. This puzzled me, given the eminently Googleable nature of the premise. Then I started watching.

Alison Herman TV Critic This is going to sound like a backhanded compliment, but I mean it: One of Padma Lakshmi’s most valuable skills as the host of “Top Chef” — a major part of what will be missed when Lakshmi departs the show after the June 8 finale — is product placement. In the crowded, sometimes tawdry world of reality competitions, “Top Chef” is unique in its credibility. The show is effective entertainment, but over 20 seasons in 17 years, the Bravo mainstay has also established itself as an arbiter of taste on par with the Michelin guide. Some of that authority comes from longevity; some from Lakshmi’s fellow judges, chef Tom Colicchio and editor Gail Simmons; some from casting, which has generated a talent pool so formidable that the show frequently circles back to its own alumni, including for this season’s London-set World All Stars. But a great deal of it comes from Lakshmi, a presence so commanding she can deliver phrases like “the Glad family of products” and “furnished by San Pellegrino” without disrupting the show’s carefully constructed sense of gravitas.
