Cynthia Littleton Business Editor CANNES — International TV sales veteran Jim Packer has set a multi-year deal with Lionsgate that will keep him on the senior management team as president of worldwide TV distribution. News of his contract extension was revealed Oct. 17, just as the Mipcom content marketplace kicks off this week in Cannes, bringing the global TV community together for the first full time in three years. Packer has been with Lionsgate since 2011. The news that he has re-upped comes at a time of uncertainty for the studio. Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer has said the company, which is home to the Lionsgate studio and Starz pay TV platform, is considering options for separating those assets, possibly by selling off the studio to focus on building up Starz.

The two New York ex-cons accused in connection with the shooting death of the father of a local Marist College student at a Poughkeepsie hotel were ordered held without bail on Friday after they pleaded not guilty.  Roy Johnson and Devin Taylor are charged separately for their involvement in the October 2 shooting that led to the death of 53-year-old Paul Kutz and the discovery of an alleged bomb-making "manual."  Wearing a white t-shirt and an orange jail-issued jumpsuit with his hair up, Johnson – the man accused of opening fire and killing Kutz – appeared in New York's Dutchess County Court early Friday. Johnson, 35, was indicted on one count of second-degree murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.  Taylor, 26, appeared separately from Johnson on two charges of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.  Photos show Paul Kutz with his family in an image from 2013.

Wood, best known for his role as a correspondent on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show With Trevor Noah,” is an Emmy Award-nominated documentary producer, comedian, writer, actor, radio personality and podcaster. The comedian was most recently seen starring opposite Jon Hamm in “Confess, Fletch,” which was released on Sept. 16. His other credits include Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building,” Netflix’s “Space Force,” AMC’s “Better Call Saul” and TBS’ ‘The Last O.G.” He executive produced PBS’ Emmy-nominated documentary “The Neutral Ground,” which followed the 2015 turmoil that ensued after the New Orleans City Council voted to remove four Confederate monuments from public grounds. A forceful group of critics protested the decision, and fearing retaliation, no crew agrees to remove the statues.

Manori Ravindran International Editor New York’s South Asian International Film Festival has appointed Chayan Sarkar as its new president. A filmmaker, entrepreneur and festival director, Sarkar is also the founder of the Indian International Film Festival of Queensland in Australia. He takes over from SAIFF founder Shilen Amin, who will step down as president, but will remain a member of the festival’s board of directors. Sarkar joins SAIFF as the festival enters its 19th year as a leading film festival in the U.S. for new cinema from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal, and within the Indian diaspora. In recent years, SAIFF has become increasingly influential as a platform for South Asian cinema, both in the U.S. and internationally. Fourteen of India’s submissions for the international feature film Oscar have had their North American premieres at the festival.

Emily Longeretta “Dancing With the Stars” took on once of its most popular weeks on Monday night, with each star performing routines to hit Disney+ songs. The ex-con accused of fatally gunning down the father of a Marist College student inside a Courtyard Marriott in upstate New York – showed a murderous streak in the past.  Roy Johnson, 35, was arrested Sunday for the slaying of acountant and father of three Paul Kutz in Poughkeepsie in the lobby of the hotel where both men were staying, according to police. Back in December 2005 during a violent robbery, Johnson, then 19, and an accomplice kicked in acquittance Amin Hinson's front door in broad daylight, then aimed a silver revolver at Michael Jones' head, court records show. "Shut the f---- up or I will kill you!" Johnson threatened.

A Pennsylvania man who was visiting his Marist College freshman daughter over the weekend and staying in the Marriott Courtyard hotel where a homeless felon allegedly gunned down another dad Sunday said it could've happened to anyone and that he has new concerns about his daughter's safety. "You feel so bad for that family," John Bucsek told Fox News Digital Wednesday.

The Sony Pictures and Black Label Media production was directed by J.D. Dillard and stars Jonathan Majors, who will serve as the festival’s official ambassador. HBO will return as a founding partner of the Urbanworld Film Festival, and Visa will serve as presenting partner. The festival will take place from Oct. 26 to Oct. 30. “This year’s slate is incredibly impressive,” said Karen McMullen, head of programming. “We have some of the top artists in the industry as well as exciting new voices premiering their films at Urbanworld. It has been a privilege working alongside this organization as we move into our 26th year as a festival.
