Depeche Mode appeared on BBC Radio 2’s Piano Room, where they performed three songs accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra, and spoke to presenter Gary Davies.Performing at BBC’s Maida Vale studios for the first time, the duo – Dave Gahan and Martin Gore – shared versions of ‘Walking In My Shoes’, ‘Ghosts Again’ and a reworking of Gordon Lightfoot’s ‘Sundown’.During the show, Davies played some listener questions, one of which was: “I’m really interested to know if you have your own idol, musically or otherwise?”Gahan replied: “Yeah, I mean straight away, even when you’re saying that sentence, it’s always been and always will be Bowie. I got to know him a little bit as well in the last few years of his life just because our daughters’ went to the same school in New York.

Their latest record, ‘The Album’, will be coming out on May 5, and was preceded by its lead single ‘Wings’, which was released on February 24.Alongside the new music, the trio will also be embarking on a tour, which includes a one-night-only mega-show at London’s Royal Albert Hall on April 14 and at New York’s Yankee Stadium on August 12.Taking to the SNL stage, the band performed a choir-backed version of ‘Waffle House’ – their new single, which was released on April 7.“Growing up, we would go to Waffle House after shows, and it became our sanctuary,” the Jonas Brothers said in a statement about the song (via Rolling Stone). “It was the place we dreamt up ideas, the place where we worked through our problems together, and the place where we finally realized we could find our way through anything as long as we came together.”The Jonas Brothers also gave ‘Walls’, which is the closing track on ‘The Album’, its live debut, also backed by a choir.The Jonas Brothers’ last album was 2019’s ‘Happiness Begins’, which included the singles ‘Sucker’, ‘Cool’ and ‘Only Human’.In other news, the Jonas Brothers made a surprise appearance during Lewis Capaldi’s headline show at Radio City Music Hall on Thursday night (April 6).Capaldi was performing in New York ahead of the release of his upcoming second album ‘Broken by Desire to be Heavenly Sent’.

Depeche Mode have spoken to NME about what The Psychedelic Furs‘ Richard Butler brought to the writing of their upcoming album, ‘Memento Mori’.The synth-pop icons will this week release their long-awaited 15th album ‘Memento Mori’ – marking their first new material since the passing of founding member Andy Fletcher last year.Four of the album’s tracks – with a further two set to be released later this year – feature songwriting credits from Butler. Speaking to NME as part of a recent interview, the band’s chief songwriter Martin Gore explained the significance of this being a “big first” for him.“I’ve never written with anyone outside of the band in our history,” Gore told NME.

Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan and Martin Gore have spoken to NME about how the death of Andy Fletcher impacted their dynamic, and said that the loss brought them closer.The two surviving members were speaking as part of a new interview with NME when they opened up about how Andy Fletcher’s death last year impacted the band. Frontman Gahan likened the loss of the keyboardist to that of The Rolling Stones’ late drummer, Charlie Watts.“With The Stones losing Charlie Watts, knowing about their longevity and how it’s fucking hard work to keep a band going for that long, you realise how it’s got to be losing an anchor,” Gahan told NME.
