Vera star quits ITV drama with emotional statement leaving fans devastated

One of the much-loved stars of long-standing ITV hit drama series Vera has sadly announced plans to step down from the role after an incredible eight years. Actor Kenny Doughty, 47, who plays DS Aiden Healy in the popular detective series, revealed in an emotional statement on that his time on the show will soon be coming to an end.The star took to Instagram on Monday to let fans know the news, while thanking co-star Brenda Blethyn, 77, who plays Vera Stanhope for all the memories they made whilst working as an on-screen double act. Kenny told his 38,600 followers: "After 8 years & 35 Vera films I’ve made the difficult decision of handing over DS Healy’s badge.
I can confirm I am leaving Vera. "I want to thank everyone who’s made this amazing time so joyous, ITV, Silverprint, all the brilliant cast and crew BUT of course my buddy & inspiration Brenda Blethyn. "The perfect leading star who I owe so much to.
I feel lucky to have you as a friend, you make me howl with laughter & have been a rock for me over the years. I can’t thank you enough. Precious times." The drama favourite continued: "And finally the Vera fans: without you and your support I would never have made so many films.
He concluded: "You really are the best fans in the world.Thank you so much for your loyalty & love for the show. X." The sorrowful news has come as a shock to several fans, who took to the comment section of Kenny's emotional post to wish him well. One fan commented: "Really loved having you in my life as DS Healy for the last eight years! You will be missed! Good luck with what comes next for you...
